Not until school is done. It is a distraction.

No, I need to watch to make sure you aren't distracted from your studies. A degree means money.

I'd think about it when he is 16, but I would make sure he knew that there are consequences for every action he takes. I would also want him to keep in contact with his father or I if he does go out.

Yes. I want him to experience once in a lifetime opportunities. Of course, I would hope I have given him enough advice and information, that he would be able to be independent. I would miss him though.

When he is 18, and a legal adult. Until then, I will watch what he does and says. Same for his cell phone.
I'd probably raise my kids very similar to how I was raised.
-No, a solid education is one of the most important tools a kids needs to survive and thrive.
-Eh, depends on their level of maturity. I'd want to teach my kids how to deal with the opposite sex and social situations. They could probably start dating around 16-17, maybe even a little earlier. My parents never put restrictions on this, so it was never a big deal.
-Yes, get out of my house. Seriously though, campus life helps young adults learn how to handle life situations. Living on campus and living at home are completely different experiences. I'd want my kids to adjust to a life where they need to make their own decisions.
-Fortunately I didn't grow up with social media. At most there was MySpace and AIM. Again this also depends on the kid's maturity level. I'd probably allow my teenagers (16-17) to be on social media as long as I was friends with them. My kids can hang out with their friends at whatever age. I never understood parents who were so strict that they'd regulate on their kids socialize with friends. I was always allowed to hang out with friends.
As far as making life decisions, 18 is when a child is legally an adult. Until then, my house my rules.

Force them to quit, no. Quit indefinitely? No. Take a year off from college? Maybe, if they were enthusiastic about a family real estate investment that they would have a stake in. If not, then they should stay in school.

That's an ongoing negotiation with Mom and Dad. When someone feels the need to begin making those decisions, it's time to have those conversations about loosening boundaries and proving one's ability to be responsible as more freedom is allowed by parents. If the parents are unwilling to loosen their grip, then it sounds like they'll have to wait until they're 18 or when they move out.

IF I decide to have kids (big if)...
I wouldn't make them buy a house but I will ask them to pay rent once they turn 18 and are still living at home. What they don't know is I will save this money and gift it towards a down payment on their first home.
As far as controlling where they live once in college and their access to friends, dating, and social media...well I'd be more concerned that they have good judgement. I want to install strong morals and make sure if they encounter an iffy situation they are prepared to deal with it. My parents sheltered us to the extreme. Intention was good but it did more harm than good imo.

they can date age 18.
they are young adults.
yes my children may
live on the campuses.
i raised them well so
i do trust them to do
well away from home.
ideal age is 18 to take
charge of the decisions.
i will step aside but also
be there when they need.
