Share something about your job that everyone might not know. Or mention some crazy work stories. And if you have any questions relating to a specific job, ask.

I work in probation as a house arrest monitor. If you have any questions about how house arrest works I can tell you. And if you have any questions about drug tests and maybe even some about probation officers, I can probably answer.

Where I work community monitors do most of the drug tests, though pos will do them on field visits sometimes too. They'll send it referrals for defendants to be tested usually either weekly, biweekly, or monthly.

If they're speciality court like DUI court, we use a 13 panel cup which basically just shows more drug option. Otherwise they use an 8 panel cup. And yes, you have to go in the bathroom and look at their privates to make sure they're not trying to cheat it. If they're zero tolerance which is decided by the judge and they turn up positive for something then we send the test out to the lab and they get a warrant/arrested.

As for house arrest, we dot use the GPS ankle bracelets. Our bracelets can only tell if someone is in range of their house arrest box which is hooked up in their residence. We also have TAD bracelets that some defendants have that can detect alcohol usage. POs give you windows to go places. Us monitors have a site that we use to track when people leave without a window, when they enter, when they're having equipment issues, if they cut their ankle bracelet, etc.

I have to check in once a month for drug tests, pay money, I can't leave the state without permission. I had to take a buttload of expensive classes. I'm on supervised so my officer comes by to make sure I'm still living where I say I am.

I have over 1 year left.

You can find out if a test is positive right away by the lines on the cup. If the line is completely gone, it's positive. But for zero tolerance people you have to send it to the lab anyway and those results probably take a bit to come in considering we ship them out through FedEx. You can call the lab to get the results, though.
If the line is almost gone and you think the defendant has been using or has a history of using that drug then you'd send it to the lab as well.

At my agency we only make you pay for the drug tests if they get sent to the lab.

The house arrest equipment costs money too. It's $ 100 to install it and the cost after that depends on your income.

Sometimes those on probation are court stipulated to take classes like cognitive behavioral therapy or batterers intervention. Some are free and some you have to pay for. Being on probation can be pretty expensive and most of the time people have trouble paying

whoa ...thats a lot ...if your a female and your probation officer is a male does he look at you go to the bathroom? can you request a female probation officer if you feel uncomfortable?

You're only allowed to watch someone take a drug test if you're the same gender. At our offices we have at least one male monitor and one female monitor. When they come to the office, the monitor of the same gender will go back with you. If they're not available then a po of the same gender will do it. On field visits a po of the opposite gender won't watch you pee but will make sure everything seems good afterwards by lookin at the temperature and such on the cup

I work in the medical field ...while kinda of lol I'm the administration ...one of the weirdest stories was a guy left the hospital against medical advice to go get some fast food ...he came back to the hospital about 30 minutes later clutching the fast food bag in his hand having a heart attack ...he kept trying to eat the burger while they (the staff) was trying to treat him lol

another crazy one this guy was unconscious they (the hospital staff) used the defibrillator (those things used to shock people to restart their hearts) on him and he pops up and goes "I'm ok" "I'm ok" then passes back out.....then they shock him again and he pops back up and goes "I'm ok" "I'm ok" lol he did this for like 20 minutes until they could get him stable ....
It's sad but I got a good laugh out of that first story. I hope the fast food was worth it

@sunkisses26. You have a lot of questions, very curious mind you have: ) Why are you so curious? Do you know others who have had trouble with the law?

Classes are for "treatment "(mine we're alcohol related) my last class I had to do every Monday night for 14 weeks...and it costs me $ 2,000. You just have to pay it, make ends meet and sacrifice going on to pay it. I don't want to move but yes, typically you need approval. I still pay 280 $ a month the for my probation fees. Ugh.

I have a male po. He is very kind and tells me when he's coming by, never comes in. It sucks but I do what I'm told so I don't have any issues. Ill just never put myself in this position again.

I work clinically in a foot and ankle orthopedic specialty clinic. Radiologist, surgical assistant, hipaa complience and osha officer.

I know a little bit about foot/ankle injuries. Vascular disease, diabetes, wound care etc.

What's one of the worst cases you've seen/heard about (if there's anything be that stands out)

OK, 2 weeks ago, we get a selfpay pt. He said he had a "blister". He was self conscious and refused to take off his shoes. So I keep talking and do it myself.. "put your feet up and relax!" His second left toe was black, he had dry gangrene, and his heel wound went to the bone. Entire heel tissue missing.

He had neuropathy. ((Numbness basically)) and he burned all the flesh off his heel after falling asleep with his heel on a hearing pad. He saw the damage and decided to throw his leg on the back of his couch and woke up ti find his toe turned black.

Hospital gave him antibiotic and ssd and sent him out. His toe has to fall off. It will literally die and fall off. His heel will heal, but he needed intervention fast.

Another one, gah.. a 93 year old woman with her peroneal tendon visable after undergoing a skin cancer removal that turned for the worse.

And once, a man with an arch ulcer had his home health nurse rip off his bandage, which exposed an artery. he comes in and the pool coagulated into a bubble around his ankle in thr waiting room. We did emergency sterile surgery and stiched his artery(blood literally shot out like a yard sprinkler). He is now doing fine.

I probably have so many spelling errors.

hahahhahaha yes I do have a curious mind...I hope Im not bugging you with alll my questions ....you never know when you will need some random bit of information 🙂 the prices seem very unreasonable ...how can someone expect to come up 2000 thousand dollars!(is this a one time fee..) and 280 a month and still pay bills ...I glad you po is a nice guy....

Well, it's my fault. I was lucky enough to budget it. for those who can't are in violation and could go to jail, or extend their probation. You're fine to ask questions. I am not ashamed, I was stupid, but this is how I learn.

I'm curiosity ridden myself. : )

Currently I'm working in the warehouse industry in a Supervisory capacity. However in a past life, I was a Photo Journalist covering Public Safety in the San Francisco Bay Area for nearly a decade. Whether it was Accidents, Crime Scenes, Fires, or Hostage Situations, I was usually one of the first on scene with my camera getting the story as it unfolded. Unfortunately, there came a time when I started to become disillusioned with the News industry in general and decided to part ways. I am in the process of making a comeback though and a lot of the money I earn from the current job is going toward launching my own News company. After all if you want something done right, gotta do it yourself. 😉

In my company, every possible incident / story would get reported and we wouldn't play favorites nor would we throw journalistic integrity out the window by catering to elitist pricks whom have more power over what gets printed than the editor! My offering will be 100% independent of greedy corporations, period.
