everyone dislikes the girl who shows off. everyones jealous of the girl who's self assured. everyone dislikes the girl who's flashy. everyone dislikes the girl who speaks her mind. everyone dislikes the girl who loves herself. everyone dislikes the girl who speaks freely about sex and loves it. everyone dislikes the girl who's forever changing.

I can see your point. People are intimidated by those who are confident. The world is run on jealousy, or so it seems. We often blame other people for our own inadequacies. Instead of trying to drag other people down, it is best to concentrate on yourself and try to make yourself the best person you can. My thoughts anyway.

This is a bit unrelated, but I thought you might like to read it anyway 🤢gt;If I Had A Gun

I?d shoot the man who pulled up slowly in his hot car this morning
I?d shoot the man who whistled from his balcony
I?d shoot the man with things dangling over his creepy chest in the park when I was contemplating
the universe
I?d shoot the man who can?t look me in the eye
who stares at my boobs when we?re talking
who rips me off in the milk bar and smiles his wet purple smile
who comments on my clothes. I?m not a spreading painting that needs to be told what it looks like.
Who tells me where to put my hands, who wrenches me into position like a meccano set, who drags
you round like a war
I?d shoot the man who couldn?t live without me
I?d shoot the man who thinks it?s his turn to be pretty flashing his skin passively like something I?ve
got to step into, the man who says John?s a chemistry Ph.D. and an ace cricketer, Jane?s got rotten
legs
who thinks I?m wearing perfume for him
who says Baby you can really drive like it?s so complicated, male, his spreading highway, who says
ah but you?re like that and pats you on the head, who kisses you at the party because
everybody else does, who shoves it up like a nail
I?d shoot the man who can?t look after himself
who comes to me for wisdom
who?s witty with his mates about heavy things that wouldn?t interest you, who keeps a little time to
be human and tells me, female, his ridiculous private thoughts.
Who sits up in his moderate bed and says Was that good like a menu that hangs on you sloppy and
thick as carpet
I?d shoot the man last night who said Smile honey don?t look so glum with money swearing from
his jacket and a three course meal he prods lazily
who tells me his problems: his girlfriend, his mother, his wife, his daughter, his sister, his lover
because women will listen to that sort of rubbish
Women are full of compassion and have soft soggy hearts
you can throw up and no-one?ll notice and they wont complain.
I?d shoot the man who thinks he can look like an excavation site but you can?t, who thinks what
you look like?s for him to appraise, to sit back, to talk his intelligent way.
I?ve got eyes in my spreading head.
Who thinks if he?s smart he?ll get it in.
I?d shoot the man who said
Andrew?s dedicated and works hard, Julia?s ruthlessly ambitious who says I?ll introduce you to the
ones who know with their inert alcoholic eyes that?ll get by, sad savage and civilized
who says you can like there?s a law against it
I?d shoot the man who goes stupid in his puny abstract how-could-I-refuse-she-needed-me taking
her tatty head in his neutral arms like a pope
I?d shoot the man who pulled up at the lights who rolled his face articulate as an asylum and
revved the engine, who says you?re paranoid with his educated born to it calm
who?s standing there wasted as a rifle and explains the world to me.
I?d shoot the man who says Relax honey come and kiss my valium-mouth blue.

Oh how did you come to that? it is a story of displeasure with men and it is through the eyes of someone that makes their living off of men. The last paragraph tells the story.

I liked it Cortica! I liked it a lot! Yeah...it is definitely about feminism...something this girl relates to!!

It is not about being dependent on a man...Lordy! Where did you get that Suzy?

How did I come up with it you ask. Because the person who wrote it, is speaking obviously from experience or has personal knowledge of this. A feminist would not even know or associate with anybody fitting that description. Sounds like she has had things done to her and is pissed off, finally. IMO

The example is full of rage and wanting to kill over it. I dont think in order to do that, you would have to have experience that kind of treatment, and a 'true feminist' wouldnt be caught dead.

?loving you?
don?t tell
me
what I want
to hear
from
your disloyal lips
tasting so sweet
but using

stop invading my mind
stay away
no
stay with me

I dream of You
tearing me a p a r t
slowly
trapping me
stealing me
so I can?t escape
so I don?t want to

I don?t
want
freedom I want
You

You can?t
have me
You don?t
want me
but now
You know me
falsely only
my body
You don?t see
my mind
don?t care
only hunger

You don?t see
how I cry
in pain
You ripped
a gash in
my heart
then squeezed
until the tears
welled up in
my soul splattering
on the cold
floor
my only refuge
on the unjudging
linoleum
You bit me
drained me
no more will
to resist
your smooth skin
drowning me
in your presence
smashing me apart
you turn your back
on me
crushing me
leaving me
sliced open
shredded
bleeding
taking pleasure
in the stability of the
yellowing plastic tiles

Lead lies
upon my chest
burning
hot coals in my guts
killing
my soul
leaving
my still
beating heart
bleeding
in my cold
body
limp
from the
crushing
weight of
truth

but in the end
I?ll play
the game
I?ll smile
when you call
my name
with out bothering
to conceal
the icy needles
and barbed remarks
shimmering
in my vengeful eyes

so let
the games begin
you?ll eat up
my resolve
indulge
in your
guilt
until You
choke
on the pain

when
your heart
bursts
when
You welcome
the broken
solace
of eternity
then You?ll
know
I love you
just as much as
You love me

I like your response Morgan - lots of ideas being expressed subtley - one of those pieces you can read through again and again and see something different every time.

Suzy, this is so not about a prostitue - you don't have to be a prostitute to be the recipient of unwelcome male attention/opinion whether it be sexual/sexist or otherwise.

Libragirl, have you noticed how nobody admits to being a feminist anymore, almost as though it's become an embarrassing term. Just because women are capable of abusing power, doesn't neccessarily undermine or negatively impact on feminist ideology ie. the behaviour of individuals will always embody extremes and should be differentiated from social structure.

The reason I brought up feminism is because for me, Lena's first post is a feminist statement. Qualities such as self assurance, speaking your mind etc. are generally viewed as positive, except when exhibited by a girl, and then they become negative characteristics.

Change the post to 'everyone dislikes the boy who...' and it just doesn't work. Likewise, would you have a whole heap of male posters coming in and saying how much they relate to it?

Hey morgan... when I first read this post I thought of you... Yes, people dislike others who think they know more (whether they do or don't) and people dislike others who are better than them at such things as confidence, leadership, etc.

As for your poem... very nice timing. It brings back memories of your furious writing on torn notebook pages and napkins. =)

Cortica- You're right on!

WHy is the word "feminist" so negative? I'm a feminist. Most of the women and some of the men in my family are feminists. 9Yes, there is such thing as a male feminist) A feminist doesn't hate men or think they're pigs or want women to have all the power... we simply want equality-socially, economically, politically, culturally (etc.). Women aren't traditionally allowed to show such strengths and it becomes negative when they do.

HAH Lena!

I think that the men these days are afraid to mess with women; they cant say anything if it even sounds remotly sexist. I think that feminism has taken things too far, as usual. It is like we cant even talk together anymore. If you want respect, then get it. The person in the poem obviously didnt have the backbone to stand up for herself.

Suzy Q... there's a lot more to feminism then you think... at least how I view feminism. It doesn't necessarily take things too far--maybe in our country there are a lot of women who don't like men because they are men, but in other countries throughout the world... Peru, Bosnia, Pakistan, Uzbekistan< Rwanda, Nigeria, Mexico, etc. there are still women fighting for equal rights. I don't think women in our country should stop fightng for equal rights just because we have acheived it in our country (whch we haven't totally but are well on the way). As long as there is any country/culture that treats women as second class citizens we should be supporting feminism. As for going too far... there are people in any movement that are radicals, it's only that many men and some conservative women who had originally pointed out the radicals and said they were the ones who represented all feminists and that was why feminism was bad.

true suzy Q! men DO fear women, women CAN control men, its so easy, but more SEXUALLY not like..our position they have placed in their heads but i guess we cant CHANGE every man on this god frenchticklein place. Its "kool" i guess to stand up for what some women believe but sometimes it seems like men and people just dont care. And its actually kinda amusing that they dont care shiznitless for some women's opinions. Sad.

I consider myself to be a feminist, and to me feminism isn't just about fighting men. It's about fighting reputation. People don't realize, simply because it's no longer politically correct, that a lot of women do not have equal status. A lot of women are put in positions that they can't get out of by just telly some guy to treetrunk off. And it's not easy to be a strong person when everyone wants you to be weak. It's not easy to stand up for what you believe in if it means sacrificing your security. And sometimes that's a choice you have to make. Do we stand up and break out of the weak image and risk losing our homes, our jobs, and our places, or do we fight on our ideals and strive to create a new image. Times change, but they change slow, and it takes work to get things moving. Feminism does not imply anger at men. Women can be sexist against women as well. Feminism means the movement to reform a woman's role in society. Traditional images are extremely hard to break, however, and this is why discussions such as these arise.

You always have a choice! I have lost jobs for doing just that. You have to live with yourself at the end of the day! If I was put in that postion, I wouldnt hesitate, and I havent, to tell a man to go treetrunk himself! If you lose your job, so what, get another one. Someone has to do it, and someone has to go first! That is the only way it will change for those behind us. Stand up have integrity and faith in what is right. If you do this, you cant lose! If a guy is treating you that bad on the job, why would you want to stay there anyway? So if you got to go, then make it worth your while, or for somebody else down the line!!!

I still think that this political correctness is getting us into a hole. The courts are bag logged with frivilous lawsuits.

Oh for treetrunk's sake Cortica, just speak english. Whatever i am, feminist or not, i believe in women's rights. Maybe i am sick of labels as such. Why can't i just 'be'? Why do i have to be 'something'?

NO, I am just kidding, I havent had to tell a guy to go treetrunk himself, but I would if I had to!!!

I cant realte too much, because I dont feel like I have ever been held back. Maybe I was and didnt even know it.

Ok, interesting topic and infromative. Keep it going, CU later and have a great night, y'all!
