I'm classified as disabled by my school because I have three mental illnesses and one that's in remission. What do you mean by "how do I justify my disability and what it qualifies?"

Depression is considered a disability in the US classified by severity...
Bipolar...mental illness
Cancer
Certain Hepatitis etc...
These are certain issues that people may have that may deem someone "ok and walking around" when they may not necessarily be...
It is not easy to get disability benefits in the US. Most people have to apply more then once often getting denied several times before getting approved if they do get approved...it can take over two years and often require getting a disability lawyer.
There is endless applications, appointments, interviews, and documentation that needs to be supplied
Sometimes people with legitimate issues get denied because they are not considered disabled enough...
Sometimes they approve disability but make you go through the whole process again every 2 years to see if your condition has improved..
A disability is anything: ie illness or injury that classifies a person to not be able to hold down reasonable employment...
The people you see walking around may be on Welfare...the girls with Prada bags...could be dupes, nails done...whose to say they don't have a side dude or a baby daddy paying for shit. With Welfare...the more kids you have, the more assistance you get. I'm not sure how long you can get assistance for for each child though and I do know once your child is in school the do start making you go to employment assistance and are asked to bring in a certain amount of proof you have filled out job applications...but that was a few years ago, I dont know what they do now and I think each state has different requirements.

Posted by ShadowcatPosted by tizianiI didn't get it. My entire final year of high school was basically ran by mental health issues. I exhausted most of my energy developing coping mechanisms, while I also did more activities to make myself more appealing to a college but I stopped sleeping. Which naturally made everything worse. I still got a really good scholarship to my school, but accepting the failure isn't easy.Posted by ShadowcatAre you still going on the Baccalaureate?Posted by tizianiFull on Agoraphobia hit this school year, it became a real issue during my second semester because it got much worse. ENABLER... do you know what you say? Not talking About kids. Adults. And they need confidence. Don't feed into it.
You asked what a disability was and how it was defined and how one gets approved for it. I answered your question precisely and thoroughly...and without a personal opinion. I work for a health plan that happens to deal with a lot of real disabled people of all ages...and perhaps ones that should not be getting benefits...
Anywhoo...your reading comprehension is a fail.

Despite my mother? What are you talking about? Please don't tell me that you're one of those people who think that mental health issues are just thinks you can shake off during the critical moment. "Pull yourself up by your bootstraps!"
Of course have goals, I don't go to school for my health.

Posted by metalaquamonkeyYes, it's a chemical imbalance in the brain. Anything non-physical (emotions, reactions etc.) is a result of that chemical imbalance.
Mental illness is a disability and has nothing to do with self esteem.![]()

Posted by virgowithasoulDude, you're thinking of a different person.
@faiyaz are you based in singapore? I never heard that they provide financial support for mentally disabled, and even if they do, nobody would dare to take it due to the extreme stigma they face, even from relatives.
That said some of the most successful people i know are people who finally coped with their disability. The condition gives them a level of resilience that leads them to success once the disability is out of the way.

Posted by andstrollbotIt should be. The treatment would be pushing them off a cliff. 100% coverage from insurance companies because the treatment would be so efficient and cost effective.
is narcissism a disability?
Posted by Vixen2yes it's a long process. and they do get screened and checked.

Posted by deelishsorry to hear that. I also have an aunt who just recently got diagnosed having MS. It was a shock, but her and her husband are going to be going to buy a house in the islands and retire there. I don't know why, since they need to have good insurance for her, but she wants to just die peacefully in the tropics and have less stress.
I became disabled in 2013 after working pretty much all my life. I have multiple sclerosis. I woke up one morning and my whole left side was numb and I couldn't walk without assistance. I am now able to walk with minimum assistance, but I still use a cane sometimes. My disease is incurable and is progressive. I would prefer to work but I can't, I prefer to have earned income instead of waiting on a check every month. I have had broken bones, scrape and bruises from falls and trips. I was put on disability 6 months after I applied after many interviews physical and mental tests from my doctor and disability doctor. Fortunately I am on military insurance which covers my medical care.

Posted by OceanBoy88You know that person's medical records?
I agree with you, i hate it. I seen fully able bodies come out of a car and just milk it. I met a guy that pretended to the doctor that he was mentally retarded. Wtf—! Not mentally retarded like the stereotype that we know, but the not so known ones. Idk what they are but he says he acts dumb with the doc and talks offbeat. He "failed" an IQ test and has been labeled with down syndrome. The lowliness of the things people do for a handout....
