Psssst don't talk to yourself. I'm here.........

I'm classified as disabled by my school because I have three mental illnesses and one that's in remission. What do you mean by "how do I justify my disability and what it qualifies?"

how long have you been agoraphobic?

Full on Agoraphobia hit this school year, it became a real issue during my second semester because it got much worse. But it was building throughout my life. I would have moments where I'd have to rush home, or I would have panic attacks while going grocery shopping. Or I would start freaking out about the snow and try to go inside. I didn't dwell on it much because I was more focused on the symptoms of my OCD and GAD. I didn't realize I had it until things got really bad.

Seek a pathophysiologist.

That's a disease of the mind. It's curable. You overreact to stimuli because you can't cope.

I don't get free money, my mom does for the same disabilities. Theoretically if I did it would be because they obviously make working far more difficult for me than the average person. I couldn't work for the entire school year.

Depression is considered a disability in the US classified by severity...

Bipolar...mental illness

Cancer

Certain Hepatitis etc...

These are certain issues that people may have that may deem someone "ok and walking around" when they may not necessarily be...

It is not easy to get disability benefits in the US. Most people have to apply more then once often getting denied several times before getting approved if they do get approved...it can take over two years and often require getting a disability lawyer.

There is endless applications, appointments, interviews, and documentation that needs to be supplied

Sometimes people with legitimate issues get denied because they are not considered disabled enough...

Sometimes they approve disability but make you go through the whole process again every 2 years to see if your condition has improved..

A disability is anything: ie illness or injury that classifies a person to not be able to hold down reasonable employment...

The people you see walking around may be on Welfare...the girls with Prada bags...could be dupes, nails done...whose to say they don't have a side dude or a baby daddy paying for shit. With Welfare...the more kids you have, the more assistance you get. I'm not sure how long you can get assistance for for each child though and I do know once your child is in school the do start making you go to employment assistance and are asked to bring in a certain amount of proof you have filled out job applications...but that was a few years ago, I dont know what they do now and I think each state has different requirements.

ENABLER... do you know what you say? Not talking About kids. Adults. And they need confidence. Don't feed into it.

Are you still going on the Baccalaureate?

I didn't get it. My entire final year of high school was basically ran by mental health issues. I exhausted most of my energy developing coping mechanisms, while I also did more activities to make myself more appealing to a college but I stopped sleeping. Which naturally made everything worse. I still got a really good scholarship to my school, but accepting the failure isn't easy.

LMMFAO...who are you talking to?

You asked what a disability was and how it was defined and how one gets approved for it. I answered your question precisely and thoroughly...and without a personal opinion. I work for a health plan that happens to deal with a lot of real disabled people of all ages...and perhaps ones that should not be getting benefits...

Anywhoo...your reading comprehension is a fail.

Yes.

It feels so hateful, OP, the way you keep drilling some of the people here about their financial status in terms of their disabilities.

In truth, it is NONE of your damned business how or why they get it. I especially disliked the way you drilled Shadowcat even though she said she's not getting financial assistance but that her mother is. And you still asked her again why SHE felt she needed to get financial assistance (Correct me if I am wrong on this, @Shadowcat )

And please, for the love of god, STOP using PMS as a reason to vent and belittle others. Own up to your judgmental, cunty behaviour, and stop doing women everywhere a big disservice by using PMS as a reason for your behaving like an absolute bitch.

Mental illness is a disability and has nothing to do with self esteem.

Yes, it's a chemical imbalance in the brain. Anything non-physical (emotions, reactions etc.) is a result of that chemical imbalance.

That being said, I wanted to ask if alcoholism is considered a mental illness?

some consider it a mental illness, most insurance companys classify it as one.

@faiyaz are you based in singapore? I never heard that they provide financial support for mentally disabled, and even if they do, nobody would dare to take it due to the extreme stigma they face, even from relatives.

That said some of the most successful people i know are people who finally coped with their disability. The condition gives them a level of resilience that leads them to success once the disability is out of the way.

Of course it is.

Obsession + compulsion, and it's quite deadly.

Whether it's recognized officially, I don't know.

Dude, you're thinking of a different person.

And yes, financial support for mental disabilities is very rare in Singapore. The idea behind that is if you can walk and talk and write, you can work. Unfortunately they never factored in the level of coherence and sociability of a mentally disabled person. So most either end up not being able to get a job or in low paying, thankless jobs.

Of course, there are exceptions to that rule.

That's excellent that you've come that far with it. I hope that the paranoia will fade for you. I can relate to the problem of focusing on the past and what ifs. Great change that you made with how you look at it!

With the lucid dreaming, is that something that you used specific techniques to achieve? Some people seem to have lucid dreams often, w/o any techniques, others have to try techniques, from what I understand.

I went through a trauma a few years ago and I've made progress but I've been triggered lately so I'm doing what I can to address it so it doesn't take me down more than it has.

yes it's a long process. and they do get screened and checked.

and yes there are a few who abuse it, but it's very very FEW, an they usually get found out anyway. But the ones who need it, do need it. Mental health is an issue. In the past, there used to be mental hospitals in the U.S. but now because of the LACK of it, there's plenty of homeless everywhere. I suggest you go visit the streets of San Francisco and see the LINES of homeless people and talk to them about their disability.

I became disabled in 2013 after working pretty much all my life. I have multiple sclerosis. I woke up one morning and my whole left side was numb and I couldn't walk without assistance. I am now able to walk with minimum assistance, but I still use a cane sometimes. My disease is incurable and is progressive. I would prefer to work but I can't, I prefer to have earned income instead of waiting on a check every month. I have had broken bones, scrape and bruises from falls and trips. I was put on disability 6 months after I applied after many interviews physical and mental tests from my doctor and disability doctor. Fortunately I am on military insurance which covers my medical care.
sorry to hear that. I also have an aunt who just recently got diagnosed having MS. It was a shock, but her and her husband are going to be going to buy a house in the islands and retire there. I don't know why, since they need to have good insurance for her, but she wants to just die peacefully in the tropics and have less stress.

that's good you have military insurance.

I agree with you, i hate it. I seen fully able bodies come out of a car and just milk it. I met a guy that pretended to the doctor that he was mentally retarded. Wtf—! Not mentally retarded like the stereotype that we know, but the not so known ones. Idk what they are but he says he acts dumb with the doc and talks offbeat. He "failed" an IQ test and has been labeled with down syndrome. The lowliness of the things people do for a handout....
You know that person's medical records?

My mother is fully able bodied and gets assistance because she is schizophrenic and bipolar. There are times she's in a complete danger to herself, let alone not be able to work. She isn't able to gauge reality.

There will always be people who game whatever system...to throw the whole system away because we know a person or two or three or ten who abuse it? You people are unreal.

To the op .

Another small minded person that thinks of only the money people receive and not the bigger issue , have you ever considered how ' disabled ' people go through life and how hard life can be for them ?? No course not because you're only bitter about the help they receive .

I expect a disabled person whether it's mental or physical disabilities would dream of living a ' normal ' life like you do . Mental illness is nothing to be scoffed at ! People who suffer these conditions live their often very sheltered life in fear and I'm sure every person who you asked and not attacked would tell you no amount of money in the world can make that any easier to deal with .

People who recieve help don't just get it thrown at them , they have to have medical evidence to back up what they are claiming so for the most the people you are attacking are genuinely unwell people . You should be ashamed of yourself .

Disability isn't always something you're born with , it can happen to any one of us at any time and I hope you NEVER have to experience what some people do given how there's vile judgmental , greedy people like you in the world who unfairly attack people who through no fault of their are unwell .

Oh and one more thing we all suffer pms girl but we don't all go verbally attacking people because of it . Get a grip !
