Why Do People Delete Topics?

I'm not referring to topics of a personal nature, that's obvious. I'm talking about just random fun topics. I sometimes find myself in the midst of a detailed response, only to find that the topic has been hidden/removed. Why is this, what's the motivation?

That's even more confusing. Some posts take upwards of a few days to catch fire. Killing the topic before its gains any traction just seems shortsighted. Also are notifications THAT important?

They probably get embarrassed. I know I would after reading some of the topics posted on here LOL!

That's what I assume in some cases, though it's hard to really tell.
