So what can one do if both parents can't agree on a name for their daughter? I told him about a few that I liked but he said he did not like them.. and when I heard his choice of names I thought they were ugly...I really wanted to let him pick her name but I dont know if that was a good idea..I don't want to make him feel like he doesn't have any say on this since this is his only daughter after 5 boys...but what can I do? I don't want my daughter hating us for giving her some weird name...lol.Before I got pregnant we had talked about a name that we both liked but now he doesn't like it.

He wants something with both our names but I don't like it. How can I tell him that I should name the baby without hurting his feelings?

Aww congratulations, TBG. How far along are you? About your question, just put the name he chooses as a 2nd name for the baby if its that ugly, believe me so many people have ugly 2nd names which is exactly why they are 2nd names and not known. When i got pregnant i told my husband that if its a girl ill name her and if a boy hell do the honours, we had a boy so he did the naming. But me being me i had to have a bit of input so i gave him a 2nd name- im the 1 who did all the work, i needed compensation, lol. Just name your daughter and buy the father a tissue or something. Are u guys married? It wouldnt have mattered to me if i wasnt married to the guy (my way all the way), but thats just me. Have a happy pregnancy and plz do post us some pics of your bundle of joy- i love the kiddies man.

Thank you WC Im almost 14 weeks...Yes I guess as a 2nd name it will be ok....Yes I'll get him a box of tissues..lol and to answer your question no we are not married....and yes I will post pics as soon as she arrives. As far as being a happy pregnancy I dunno about all that...Im having heart burn..in previous pregnancies I had heartburn in the last months but not this early..im having some weird ass cravings...ill want something sweet and all of a sudden something salty...before I even knew I was pregnant I lost 25 pounds I wasn't hardly eating at all...so now Im starting to eat more even though Im still sick alot and throw up almost everything I eat. Dr said if I keep on like that they will have to admit me until I start keeping things down more...but its strange because he said the baby is growing and that for the time I have she is a good size...so im trying to eat things that don't get me too sick like dry foods and crackers..and I have been eating ice chips like crazy..i take down like 4-5 big cups of ice chips every day...and I havent been sleeping at night either..i get sleepy during the day but don't sleep much. But anyways thanks for your comment.

What are the names he's choosing?

And really, how old, egotistical, and ridiculous is it when parents name their kids after themselves, or some sort of derivative? I've never gotten the appeal.

I know of one situation where she has a husband who's a raging self centered egomaniac and has insisted that they name all of their children after him in some way, shape, or form. Even their daughter.

In another situation, since mom and dad both have names with a J, all their kids will also have names with a J.

I dunno, all of it seems really immature to me. They're human beings, not some pet where you can toy around with the name and come up with something stupid based on something equally stupid. To each their own, but I couldn't do that crap in regard to naming another human being. They gotta live with that for the rest of their lives.

In regard to this guy, is this YOUR first kid? You said he has others already and that you two aren't married, so I'm not sure if this is all tied to you both. If it happens to be your first kid, then you should have choice and he can get over it.

I'd say hunt around for more names and suggest some to him. Find out what exactly he's looking for in a name and start suggesting those. If he ends up liking one, then technically he made the choice. You just sort of showed it to him to decide on. :p

And in regard to the lack of eating, have you tried keeping those nutrition shakes/drinks aka "replacement meals" on hand? They make a great substitute for when you can't keep food down and need adequate nutrition.

He is not a hubby? He doesnt matter then, lol im joking. How many other kids do u have? Same guy? Ive heard from some of my friends that each pregnancy is different, i had a horrible one which is why ill never travel that road again. All i ate was guava juice and brown bread until the end. Hated the sight of eggs, even an egg shell had me running for the bathroom, lol. At my doctors office there was this pic of baby development in the womb, from fertilization to the last trimester, my god there was 1 stage where it looked like scrambled eggs and i puked in my mouth everytime i saw it- terrible. I hope your symptoms get better thou so you could atleast enjoy the few months that are left. Bought any baby stuff yet?

Congrats TBG,

Try peanuts and raisins...salty and sweet together or peanut butter and jelly 🙂

As for a name, chances are even if you throw all these names around you won't pick one to fit until she comes along. So just create a list of possibilities together and discuss it when she arrives. That way you don't stress now and when she is here you can just say oh she's too beautiful to be named that...what about this? You suggest and let him agree with you 🙂

Do be careful though, I gave my daughter a different name and she use to hate it, she was teased by kids when she was growing up...all through school. Her name is Forrest...and one day she came home and said of her first day at a new school that she enjoyed it because no one teased her because there was a boy in her class named Elvis and he was teased!!! Up until recently she wanted to change her name.

In May, which was just 5 months ago, you were talking about how your mother (and other family members) are against your relationship because the two of you are different races.

Of course, you have a right to be with who you want ... but, to bring a child into the mix is wrong.

If the family has NOT come to terms with this interracial union .. then the child will be shunned.

Seriously ... that was a lousy life choice, and your child is the one who will pay for it.

Adults would have worked through that obstacle and then waited a least a year or maybe longer, for everyone to begin to like each other ... so that when you do bring a child into this, the people in her life will actually love her.

You didn't even think at all, obviously

What is his sign? Cancer perhaps?

I know one couple that did that with name, their baby first name is equal to first of mom??s and second is equal to feminine's name of father??s, and then they make a party each month for that baby, with cake and candles included. And they are always showing (photos and so on) of on all sorts of social foruns how beatiful she is and how they love eachother so much.

I pitty that child.

Pangel, why is it wrong to bring a child to the mix, bcoz of race? See, i think thats stupid bcoz all a child needs is a love of both parents, not that of everybody else. If both parents are responsible, matured and able to care for their child, i dont see why its needed for everybody else to get along. And everybody might come around once they see how beautiful the baby is and even if they dont who cares?

Lol @ rocky. I always thought names like Jr were ridiculous, we know you had sex and made a baby but a permanent remembrance, really!? I sure would hate having to call their name everyday if we happen to split just bcoz i choze to call a baby after them.

Seriously.

This guy's name was Julian. They had their daughter's middle name spelled like "Juhlyenne" or something like that. Basically a "feminine" jacked up way of "Julian."

Whatever floats their boat...

My basic rules for naming-

Something that you like.

If you want it to be pretty, so be it. Just don't jack up the spelling to make it "unique." Your poor kid has to live their entire life of butchered pronunciations and horrific spelling of that name. I used to take orders of entire teams of kids' names and some of the ways people spelled basic names was bullshit. Your lack of originality does not mean you should give them some butchered spelling of a boring, common name.

And for the love of god, don't pick something that can get them easily picked on. My cousin and her husband scoured name books/resources and were being really careful in what they named their kid- all for the sake of not being picked on. Yet his initials ended up being "CLT." I hope discovery of his initials doesn't happen too often. :/

Keep it simple.

No stripperesque names. I know of a "Charysma" and a "Coco." One was chosen by a teenager and another was the 5th of the lot to be had. Also, naming after cars isn't cool. I knew of a "Princess," as well. IT'S A HUMAN, NOT A DOG. Gawd. :/

Oh, OP, also maybe bring up names by definition. I don't know what your criterion is for the naming process, but maybe approach it like "I want a name with _________ type of meaning," and go from there. You might get more variety.

I had a name picked out for my daughter and when she was born she "looked" like another name, so that's the name she got. So, don't put too much effort into figuring out a name beforehand.... maybe just wait and see what ya got 🙂

My mom did this for my sister. She was going to be named Candace, but she was born at daybreak so my mother called her Dawn.

I was going to name my daughter Oriana Devina Marie (I went through some stupid baby book and looked at meanings - Marie is my middle, my mom's middle and my grandmother's, so that was a given)... thinking back, WTF was I thinking?. Thankfully, I gave her something a bit more basic upon sight, she simply was a Nicole (middle name still Marie though) which fits her perfect 🙂 I went simple with my son as well. His name was planned though. In-fact, I had a first name picked out (for no particular reason - didn't even know anyone with the name I don't think) but struggled with a middle name. Having a 3 yo at the time and well versed in "correction", I figured I needed a middle name that would sound well with the first when I had to scold him, so I practiced different name pairings until I had something with the right "ring" - Scott Michael goes together perfect when mad LOL

I'm not a fan of naming after someone else, especially if it is a close relation, like the father or mother, because it gets confusing.
This is coming from someone whose Dad is Bob and brother is Bobby. lol.

I've seen combo names work well. My mom is named Lorraine, after her grandmother, Anna and her grandfather, Lorenzo.

I was named after both of my grandmothers.

I LOVE the name Xane!!!!!!!

My dad's name is Bob (Robert)....I got named Bobbie. I am so glad they didn't choose Roberta. lol

My mother was a gemini.....I was actually named after my father but she won the naming battle by shortening it to Bobbie after some skanky character on a show called Petticoat Junction. yay me. 😕

My virgo son is named Paige. We changed his name three times in the hospital, had the nurses extremely perturbed with us. First he was Jonathan, then Nathaniel, then Lee...and Finally Paige Nathaniel. Don't even know where Paige came from, it was never thought of before that day, I think his dad had a buddy from high school named Paige. He fits his name too. He complains every once in awhile because it's a "girls" name but all in all he couldn't be anyone else but Paige.

My pisces is named Tevin Dominique. I had that picked out well before he was even born.

Paige IS a girls name (would have been better for your Pisces) 😛

I like Tevin Dominique, very nice - Virgo sounding LOL

You mixed the two up silly!!!

Lildoll, sometimes the weird names have a special meaning for the parents, example your dance instructer, maybe she was born, conceived or her parents found out that they were expecting on a rainy day or something. Personally, i named my son Red bcoz before i knew i was pregnant i had a strange fascination with anything red, see what i mean? His 1st name is Aimaan (arabic for faith). I love the name Whisper btw, reminds me of angels for some reason

Aww, I love unusual names. I have quite a common name but it is spelt differently and double-barrelled for extra uniqueness LOL. Anyway, here's me list:

Girls

Sharma-Lee//Karhma-Lee
Monet
Anais
Simone
Auerlie
Sehre
Monroe
Syria
Saffron

Boys

Kairo//Cairo
Rio
Che (pronounced Shay)
Malakai (Kai for short)

Confession: I used to love the name Stacey for a boy but scratch that...poor boy would get ripped to shreds.
