Seriously I tried, I mean REALLY tried to like this film. For years I've got nothing but young women, older women banging on about how "romantic" and "amazing" it is. Every time I watch though...I get annoyed.

The cinematography is beautiful, the acting is good, the music is very moving, its the damn storyline that makes me pull my hair out. I think it was because it is so cliche.

The male lead hangs himself from a ferris wheel and basically threatens the girl to date him. He spends his days after breaking up with her...building a house for her, she goes and sleeps with him WHILE she's engaged to someone else. I couldn't break away from reality to take this seriously and yet, every woman I know is just in love with these characters who did the most dumb shit things. I feel like a total outsider cause I cannot for the life of me get swept up in the characters and the situation.

I'd be PISSED if a guy approached me the way it happened in the movie. For some reason though I did like the scene where they lay on the road and wait for a car to come. Good way to get an adrenaline rush.

Is there anyone else who just couldn't get caught up in this movie? Or am I in the minority here? Lol

I don't think it sends a good message to young girls at all. No man would ever do the things the male lead did in this film for them. It gives girls an unrealistic outlook on how love is...on how a man would love her.

It's actually a pretty accurate portrayal of how people are in general. Just look at DXP.

I think what most of you are really objecting are the filmmaker's intentions, whether they intended for them to be likeable.. rather than just two foolish/stubborn/proud/crazy ppl in love.

It's one of the more bearable chick flicks imo, I have it in my dvd collection instead of Netflix. lol

I couldn't get more than partway through The Notebook because I didn't think/feel enough to want to know what would happen next. I'm usually not into chick flicks and this film didn't convert me.
