one of my favorite singers from this era...hard to choose...

love his cover of this song - monologue is a little excessive as always lol, but the guitar work during is beautiful....song doesn't actually start til' 4:30...

Found out only recently that he recorded an album a couple years before his death in 2014 w/Damon Albarn of the Gorillaz. Still killin' it at 68 yrs old, this song is amazing:

You need about 8 cats and one Jed to go along with your emo musical taste.

lmao...don't mock my sensitive heart bro...I know you are all mush on the inside like every other Pisces moon....plus I have to do damage control cuz my demons got loose a lil' too close to the awards....It is my favorite era of music, and exactly bc they emote so well in some of these songs, but I listen to anything....plus my love of soul comes only from growing up on strictly hardcore east coast hip hop...the best producers sampled the hell out of this era, the choruses were always so catchy, and I started to track that original music down as I got older....

also just love the realness of the performers....before all the plastic, hollywood smiles, etc.

I loooove this song...gives me chills....his range is ridiculous....hadn't heard this until I heard the sample in Twista's "Overnight Celebrity"....
I know!! It's such a beautiful song. I simply can't get enough of it, it truly takes my breath away. Soul music at it's finest.

Now I have to look up Overnight Celebrity 😂😂

definitely a timeless classic....

OC is not my style of rap, but I do like the beat and his flow is always impressive...

For some reason the name of the song wasn't ringing a bell, but I remember really liking the song back when it came out. Now, not so much lol

It must be all the classics I've been listening to, but I do have to agree with you, Twista's flow is always on point.

same...liked it better then....last thing I've heard him on is song called "a bigger gun" and loved him on that...and also going through a classics phase myself....this thread is helping me....we really do live in an amazing time where, just through youtube alone, you have nearly the entire discography of almost any artist right at your fingertips...I try not to take that for granted...

love this dude...some consider him the best falsetto of all time....check this if you haven't heard it...he really opens up, and the instrumentation is light, so its ripe for sampling:

I agree. In this era for falsettos, I'd put Eddie Kendricks up w/ Phillip Bailey from EW&F, Russell Thompkins Jr. from The Stylistics, AND....
