Can anyone tell me how this article makes sense at all?

It's not too hard if you change the dynamic a bit to something more relatable...

CoVid-19 = An Airplane

TP = A Pacifier

Poop Culture = Discomforting

Bad Hygiene = Baby Crying

Supply Reliability = A long flight

Buying Everything = Doing What You Can

So, in short...

When on an airplane people rely on a pacifier to resolve a babies discomfort and to prevent them from crying, especially during long flights, and since thats really the only option given the situation people do what they can to make the flight as bearable as possible.

I'm having a hard time understanding the comparison

I can't see the article. Is it more tp hoarding?

I have avoided tp hoarding, but now the shelves are clear. I was at Walgreens last night, and some lady came to the front and asked a guy when there would be more. He said they just got a shipment a couple hours ago and sold out, and the next shipment wont' come until Thursday. Basically, some people act selfish, forcing a shortage, and then everyone else acts selfish too out of desperation.

I just dont understand how toilet paper became that valuable of a commodity because of virus fear.

I could see if it was medicine or something. Worse case scenario u can just jump in shower and rinse ur ass out. its just shows me how fucking stupid population still is

from the article: https://time.com/5803273/hoarding-toilet-paper/

The need to hoard the one product for which there is no alternative is only exacerbated, he adds, by the fact that it is not clear when the possible shortages will end. America’s late-to-the-party response to the COVID-19 pandemic means shoppers have not been “given assurances that the supply chain issues would be managed in due course.”

-----------------------------------------------

what supply chain issue? there is no issue with the supply chain, no country can produce enough TP for people to stock over 48 rolls per head, thats crazy, the only issue is people and their stupidity.

I think it may have to do with people not having a real friend on what the actual symptoms were of the virus when news of it spreading first came out. Possibly thinking diarrhea was involved, which isn’t the case.

So from the beginning, people started stocking up just in case and then it snowballed into this.

People following the heard, just in case they know something that someone else doesn’t.

I just went to the store yesterday and they are limiting it. As I was in the store, I fought the urge to buy some. I don’t even need any, but had a thought in my head that I might run out 😒

The article was poorly written and makes it seem like a primal need for something we won’t be able to replicate, if necessary. I just think it was a different perspective of the writer.

I’ve noticed a lot of people are losing their brains though. This is the 21st century and we do have alternatives to toilet paper. Wet wipes, bidet hoses are $ 15 on Amazon, wash cloth, whatever. We are going to be fine.

I saw a video somewhere in the US, of a man beating another mans head with a wine bottle over some bottled water. What is with the water anyway? Are they expecting coronavirus to get into our water supply? People are animals.

Going nuts over hand sanitizer. Just wash your damn hands. Thankfully in the US, rest rooms are absolutely everywhere and they usually have soap supplied, always. But people are still not knowing what to do without the hand sanitizer.

& the crazy part is people are probably making themselves more susceptible to infection by gathering in masses at retail stores. the masses are idiots

Are you really that shocked tho? I’m not.

People fight to the death (literally) over a marked down tv on Black Friday. And that’s just for fun and to save a few bucks.

Now there is a potential pandemic on our door with life and death stakes.

If things get worse expect there to be lootings and break ins. Not just at stores but people’s homes.

And on that note...

People should have already have on hand can goods, water, tp, supplies to last for at least 2 weeks as it is for natural disasters.

Earthquake preparedness here.

I invested in a 2000w backup generator for power outages a few months ago because I was tired of trashing fridge contents (we have had 2 outages since living here).

Propane tanks filled for the grill.

Bring on the zombie apocalypse. We ready.

Apparently Pacific Gas & Electric isn't going to turn off anybody's power during this pandemic for failure to pay...

They've been turning off our power for how many years now simply because too many people are on the grid or it gets too hot?

I haven't heard on what So.Cal. Edison is doing.

I want to see how this pans out. Your generator was probably a good investment, LoL

Yeah first time there was an outages was during fire season. Last time it was during a storm when a tree fell on the power lines in my neighborhood.

Sucked losing all that food in the fridge. They send you a check way later if you complain but still...such an inconvenience. And my fridge is super packed atm.
