Written by Tom Petty. His widow thought it was about his mom, others say "her" is his widow...

Background, he grew up with an abusive father, jumped into an early marriage with someone with mental health issues. He met his second wife while they were both still married but reconnected later when they were both divorced and it was a fated love, they seemed made for each other.

The band is mostly his original band from when he left Florida for California and started on the path the fame. Released not terribly long before he passed.

I think it's forgiveness of everything. His dad for the abuse, his mom for not knowing how to escape and shelter him, his first wife for her abusiveness, but also for himself. It's for it all. But because he found his second wife and peace, she helped him find forgiveness.

I've been on that path myself. I've forgiven much in my life. I'm down to two people, the hardest two. One is myself. I think deep down, that's one of the hardest ones. And no, the other isn't that certain scorpio lol.

But that one line really sticks.

People are who people make them and that ain't gonna change.

Acceptance. That's how he found forgiveness. Or so it seems. Don't fight it, accept it. Even if it's accepting someone is not the best person, especially you want them to be.

Forgiveness is the right path and you made the right choice. Sometimes we get healed and learn from it. Instead of reliving the past (I'm guilty of this) , focus on what you've learned and how you plan to do better going forward.

Remember.... you are never alone and you are valuable.
