I am waaaaaaaaay late to this party but here it goes...

I have both - familiar and foreign. Just the other night I went into a Chinese take-out place I've never been to. The young woman behind the counter was pregnant and then...i was getting major vibes from somewhere and started telling her about her husband, her other child, her unborn child.... She looked at me and said "How do you know so much about me?" I couldn't even answer her realistically. I get incoming messages from the BIG GIANT HEAD (ref. Third Rock from the Sun).
No being able to read your own situation is very typical with perceptive people. If you could predict your own future would you 1)Want to know and 2) Try to stop or prevent something meant to happening. cf36

The majority of self-made millionaires are Pisces.
I can't speak for anyone but the vibrations usually come when your in the midst of a person or situation. It's hard to take advantage of something when it's unraveling right before your eyes. You don't always get advanced warning. Besides, the law is you're not suppose to take advantage or use your ability for personal again.
