I must say that I don't feel I have the right to dictate what women do with their bodies, and I've always been pro-choice, even for myself. However, with that being said, I just watched a video... that made me sick to my stomach.
When you see the fetus and watch what happens to it on the sonogram video... my entire view on abortion has changed. I will NEVER get one. I would suggest all women watch that video before making their final decision.

I really find it hard to decide where I stand on this subject - if my boy had been the fetus of some other mother who lived in a country that provided specific tests he may have been aborted, but he is a boy that loves life to its very depths and is happy as larry in his little world and spreads happiness throughout. If my sisters boy had been the fetus of some other mother and in a country that provided abortion for fetus' that had downs syndrome he may have been aborted. Yet he is fully functional and lives a life that is extremely happy making both his parents and sister happy. Yet if a woman is raped, or has a fetus that is incompatible with life should she be entitled to seek an abortion. If she is pregnant and the baby is an inconvenience shoudl she be entitle to seek an abortion.
In my country Abortion is illegal, up to a few years ago a doctor wasn't even allowed to give advice to a woman who wanted an abortion, although we are all aware of the "taking a boat to England" solution that was available. About 20 years ago a young 13 year old girl became pregnant as a result of rape, she wanted an abortion, the courts issued an order preventing her from travelling to the UK to obtain one (at the behest of her parents), until she said she would kill herself, then the court said she was allowed to travel and have her pregnancy terminated - and it was subsequently written in to the law that abortion would be considered if the life of the mother was at risk. 20 years on and only now we are talking about writing in to our constitution that a woman should be allowed to have an abortion on the grounds that she may take her own life - there are a lot of complexities to it - it has to go to the people to pass as any change to our constitution must be sanctioned and voted on by the people. Last year a young woman died in hospital whilst miscarrying her baby, she asked for an abortion, which may have saved her life, but it couldn't be performed because the law doesn't allow abortion - there was still a fetal heartbeat - even though the baby was dying an abortion couldn't be carried out as long as there was a heartbeat - it was this case that has brought about the current debate regarding "suicide" as a reason for allowing an abortion being written in to the constitution.

I have nothing against anti-conceptives or even sterilization. Freedom of choice there, for both men and women. Why I don't agree is that people think that it is acceptable to use murder as a way to avoid something...anything.
If you cannot afford your child, give it away. Don't murder him/her! A child could be raised by the state or other organisations, by adoptive parents, by foster parents, by relatives. People raised in one of these ways include Johann Sebastian Bach, Nelson Mandela, Steve Jobs, Louis Armstrong, Marylin Monroe, Johannes Kepler, John Lennon, Jean Jacques Rousseau, Rudyard Kipling, Malcolm X, Ella Fitzgerald.

Was a bit pointless though. She would not recommend abortion to anyone and was already too old to conceive another child.
I would have liked to have met my brother/sister. That upset me much more than learning I was to be aborted as well. I thought I had a lucky escape.

I agree with Nefer, I never could myself. I do not judge someone for doing it because I don't know what their reasons are. But it does make me sad.
This is pretty much me, I never could myself, I know some women it seemed to do some fucked up things to their minds, and I also think it contributes to an entire culture of cold-heartedness in sexual relationships not to mention the whole lack of responsibility thing.
But I still have to remain pro-choice for the first trimester because there are situations where this happens that are none of my business, especially extreme cases, and I know people who have had abortions that I know are not bad people...others...ummm...
It really depends on the motive of the person having it, it's not a form of birth control, and I do not believe it should be done outside of the first trimester.
I also think "back alley" abortions are horrifying, so making 1st trimester abortions illegal just leads to more of that.
Emotionally and morally I do personally have a problem with it. But not in such a black and white way that I cannot extend the right to others to decide for themselves.

I do agree though that women often have psychological problems even after physically safe legal abortion.
One of my friends likened it to "killing a puppy" which absolutely disgusted me. I don't even eat meat anymore. I'm a quasi-vegetarian who eats fish a few times a week (because fish are not sentient, but even they can be over-fished).
Everything you say is why I couldn't have an abortion myself. I can't FATHOM having sex with a man then aborting his child. It sounds so evil and sinister.
I've had a miscarriage, that was bad enough, I can't imagine taking blame for it.
HOWEVER, I find this to be such a morally questionable ground that the first trimester, scientifically, I cannot judge people for.
