western societies are increasingly made up of old people. this is placing a burden on younger generations to care and financially support them.
unfortunately advances in medicines mean that people are being kept alive longer than ever before. they don't necessarily have a quality of life but they just assume that since the technology is there, they should have access to it.
what you end up with is a old, sick society that is a drain on resources. i think when your natural time is up, accept death. it's going to get you anyway. leave the life saving medicine for the young.
