What's your weirdest date experience? What did you learn if anything?
I thought I'd share mine to give those of you who might be solo a humbling chuckle.

--

I was driving along and stopped at a red light. A car pulled up next to me and the guy driving the car made some comment about me being cute or whatever. I was 18 and stupid. Anyhoo, the light changed, I drove a bit and then turned into the parking lot of the store I was going to. I get out and notice that the guy from the light has pulled beside me.

He gets out of the car, walks over to me,apologizes for the awkward approach and kicks a lil game. He's from NY visiting fam but plans on moving to the area and would love for someone to show him around. Long story short, we agree to go out, exchange numbers and all is well in date land.

So the night before we are to go out, he calls to coordinate our meeting. I agree to drive because I'm more familiar with the area. Convo is going well until he says, I have something to tell you that might scare you off. I tell him it's better to tell me now and he does just that...

He goes into this long story about how he used to work on the docks as a forklift operator or somethin. One day at work he was goofing around, bad things happen and the forklift ran over one of his legs. He was an amputee from mid-calf down.

So I was shocked because 1. he was driving a frickin car! 2. he walked over to me without any noticeable trouble. He asked me if I still wanted to go out with him. I paused, realized I had enjoyed the convo up until then and said yes.

Date day comes. I'm to pick him up. I'm very nervous. I ring the doorbell, the door opens and there he is...in a t-shirt and shorts...without his prosthesis...just the amputated leg dangling. He apologizes and invites me in. He turns and hops away.

Long story short, I tried to keep as open a mind as possible until he asked me to touch his leg. It was a bit much. Not to mention he tried to kiss me and that was a turn-off. Even amputees can be jerks.

So on this Valentine's Day as I'm reminded of this story...I chuckle and I'm humbled. At the end of the day, we all want to be loved for who we are and hopefully, we'll all find unconditional love some day.
