Black People Issues Light Skin v. Dark Skin Black People
I am and have always been far more than my skin. This is just my current form, but I have many, have had many more, and always will.
Posted by littlemegabytesNo, this isn't something they're creating themselves. This is something that has been hammered into them for hundreds of years and more. It's a mental illness spread by a created by the Europeans who colonized and claimed other lands outside of Europe. , African, Indian, Asian, Native.....it didn't matter which group, they were all treated as less than, taught that their culture was less than, preached at that they were animals, savages, less worthy, that god had given the whites a "natural superiority".
At the risk of sounding ignorant, I'd love to better understand the light skin vs dark skin issue. I actually wanted to make a thread and talk about it because I know there are a lot of black women on this board, so many of whom are very beautiful ladies.
As far as I know, this is something that is existing as "shadeism" within the black community, I am white and have no idea what this shit is. So according to black people, there are claims that those with lighter skin are superior to those with darker skin, all of whom are black still? So what does that say about the "light skin" black people vs white people? By their admission, are they claiming that white people are superior to their light skin black people? This is something they are creating themselves.
I've also heard that black women bleach their own skin to appear whiter. This is so crazy to me.
People are trying to reclaim their pride, reclaim self esteem (various black pride events, groups, etc), and in that struggle we see echoes of what whites have brainwashed the world with, we still see people not embracing themselves but trying to be something more......white. They get their hair bleached, get long straight weaves, bleach their skin, and it's not just in America and it's not just in the black communities, this is also a part of some of the Asian countries, and India.
"We" white people of this generation might not be the ones responsible for making slavery, for pushing the propaganda that non-whites are less than, but we DO owe it to the world to try to understand what others go through, how they see it and live it, and we DO owe it to the world to try to help them reclaim their own pride, and part of that can only happen if we acknowledge what was done to so many in the first place.
@littlemegabytes This thing of trying to be white has been going on for a very long time, because the more they could blend in, the "better" life was, the better their jobs were, etc. A lot of culture was lost, or nearly lost because European culture was being embraced. Some were punished if they spoke their native language, or used their native names. They were given Anglo names, stripped of their connection to their culture, their community, even their families.
I had a Lebanese friend who always wanted to be blonde and blue eyed, who could never see how beautiful she was, because she wasn't "white". I've heard from Native American friends who talk about the shame their grandparents and parents felt for being treated as less than because they weren't white. I have black friends who kept their secrets from me when we were kids, the fact that they had been picked on, teased or discriminated against because they weren't white.
Sure, we've made progress in getting rid of slavery, we've leveled the playing field by giving people equal rights to vote, own property, etc. but we still haven't come close to healing the collective psychological wounds for those who are not white.

it becomes self-evident as the game is played out.
There are universal rules of right and wrong that apply to ALL people.
Example: It is right to knock on the door and politely ask the occupant "may I please have some money",
but it is wrong to break into the occupant's dwelling and steal the money. Whether money, possessions, or personal security,
it is wrong to steal. When the rules are properly enforced, thieves get caught, tried, convicted and sent to jail. But if the penalties
are lenient or lax, in the minds of the criminal or would-be criminal, there are no incentives to obey the law which serve to keep
the peace.
Today, in the US, there are two predominantly oppressed people. The "African-American" and the "Native-American".
Also, there are very distinct differences between the two races:
Historically, the Native Americans were invaded by a superior force and many were slaughtered, relocated, brainwashed, decimated
and predominantly bound to the various reservations as though they were animals in a zoo where many descendants remain to this day.
