Confused with scorpio distance

I need some directions because I'm honestly at a loss of what to do. Im a taurus girl and the scorpio distance gets too overwhelming sometimes. We are friends with benefits i guess? Although ive confessed to him before we did anything so he knows i like him. The more we had sex the more i could feel him like he might have feelings for me? Before the recent distance, he was really emotionally affectionate in texts but when i indirectly asked if he likes anyone/how would he show it? He says he doesnt know bc hes hasnt really fallen in love with anyone. He then stopped being emotionally affectionate. The texts became so distant and platonic. He has a traumatic experience in the past of being cheated on and he used to say he feels like hes such a mess he cant imagine being in a relationship anymore so i never force him into anything ever. Have always been patient and understandig when hes busy.

But idk. Does he like me and hes just afraid so he is distancing himself? Or he doesnt like me at all?

Recently hes been very upset because of family problems (which he never tells) and initiated a conversation of him being suicidal. I left a few caring texts and gave him all the space he needed. For the past few days i just check in to see if hes doing alright and how his day went. Then he briefly opened up to me about his problems. He is a very private person so i felt like he trusts me which i know its a hard thing for scorpios to do. Does that mean anything?

I know scorpios distance themselves when theyre moody. I give him space and all the care. But lately ive been initiating all the conversations and he says he cant meet me because he is busy with school (i understand that scorpios are really focused when they have to get things done), and his replies are not affectionate at all.. Is that a normal thing? Im so confused.

What state is this guy in? This sounds eerily similar to my situation.

As a Scorpio, when I'm not too sure about the person or the outcome of it; I intend to retreat and analyse it. We think too much and were cautious too.
