I’m sorry you feel pain and hurt. From what you describe it doesn’t sound like he made a commitment to you so is unaware of your deep feelings. Friendship boundaries can get skewed, you admitted to being led on by your own omission but was this him or you? I’ve been there too, lead by the heart - it’s not always right. Try to let this go without anger. If you can, perhaps you can be friends if the friendship is what you truly value.
