dward: that must leave a bad taste in your mouth. i'm not sure i would want to carry on working there unless this person was fired. if a stranger came up to you in the street and said something like that, they could be arrested for threatening behaviour at the very least!

i think it's worse that it came from a black woman. she should be ashamed of herself.

Unfortunately we dont live in a perfect world.
There will always be people who will make rude remarks if youre black,gay, fat, thin, tall, short, whatever.
Im sorry that its obviously hurt you, but at the end of the day its just words - sticks and stones remember.
I do think though that if that person was able to hide behind a position of authority, making it harder or more awkward for you to tackle them about it, they should be instantly fired, no questions asked.

Yea it is still a high demand in the medical field, although I do believe that nurses are so under paid.

Next year I will be going back to school for nursing (Oncology) about 5 years of study.

Since I work here at Howard University I do not have to pay for it is one of the reason why I decided to go back to school to become a nurse. I believe I can handle it I have seen a lot of cases of all different types of cancer (while eating) and it never bothered me. 🙂

Sounds like this person is resentful because the boss highly regarded is white .. and so, if you all are going to give a white person a gift, then you must be bunch of house N's sucking up to the boss.

That's disgusting, to say the least. However, not surprising. There appears to be many people who carry this chip on their shoulder.

I have a old gf that used to live in Chicago have not talked to her for a while, met a guy (Aries) the other day on the train that was from chicago. He said the weather in DC was nothing compared to the Windy City. I started laughing he just kept teasing me about how we shut down business the first snow fall and shit. He had me cracking up 🙂

I am going to take a trip to the Windy City in the winter of course just to experince the big chill. 🙂

p angel...i dont think thats it at all....my boss has never seen black and white....she judges a person strictly by there actions.....as far as gifts.....we celebrate everyones birthdays..and all occasions...we are always having luncheons,potlucks and things of that nature.....this particular person works in another office...for some reason everyone wants to be a part of our group because we are so laid back....We have a WONDERFUL boss...so naturally we are going to show gratitude on Boss Day. My boss was in tears when she was told about the incident......unfortunately someone had to lose their job behind this.....I really feel awful because she lost her job....no one here has to suck up to our boss....we are all adults and her main objective is for us to do our job. Now a person wanting to stand out and to be her favorite is a different story.

You are defending your boss, when her integrity wasn't even put in the corner. I was talking about the Name Caller, dward, and how she likely viewed this situation, which prompted her to strike out against the black people in your department .... not talking about why or how your boss treats her employees.

I hail from DC also .. and that isn't my experience, ashley. Of course, I've been around a lot longer, and remember things you can't even imagine .... I remember when black people weren't even allowed in white stores, or even walking down white streets, I remember black people getting the fuck beat out of them for just being one and no other reason.

Unfortunately .. there are people still alive today who remember, and are resentful, bitter .... hopefully, after my generation is gone, there shouldn't be any more people who were alive then, and we can finally progress into being humans.

Only problem is that we are examples to our children, right now. So, though people may say things like that in jest to other adults ... your children are listening to you, and have no point of reference to put this into a perspective to suggest to them that this isn't funny.

I agree with p-angel, it goes way back. There is a lot of black folks in DC that is how it got it's name CHOCOLATE CITY back in the 70's (i think).

But today there is a lot of blacks, whites and hispanics living in DC, so I would not say that the majority is black anymore.
