Details of NBC??s Strong-Arm Tactics

Even A-list celebrities are being subjected to NBC??s new strong-arm tactics. NBC??s new booking policies, the network is requiring exclusivity from all Jimmy Fallon guests.

NBC has served notice on agents, publicists, and celebrities themselves that any celebrity desirous of a coveted guest appearance on the —Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon?? is forbidden to appear on similar talk shows on rival networks CBS and ABC. The ban is not just limited to late night talk shows on competing networks, it applies to rival network??s morning talk shows, too.

Celebrities will be allowed to make appearances on other NBC shows like —The Today Show?? and — Dateline?? but talk shows on CBS and ABC are out.

The crackdown stems from Jimmy Fallon??s exceptionally high rating, which NBC feels gives them extreme bargaining power.

After pulling 10.5 million viewers his first week, Jimmy Fallon is now averaging 5.5 million viewers, compared to Jay Leno??s average of 4 million viewers, Those numbers easily eclipse ABC??s Jimmy Kimmel and CBS??s David Letterman, both of whom have been averaging under 3 million viewers a night.

With numbers like that, NBC feels that it can well afford to be the bully on the block, and the crackdown seems to be working in NBC??s favor for now.
