None other than the partnership of King Louis XIV and his Finance Minister Jean-Baptiste Colbert.

Through their teamup, France became a very wealthy nation in 1682 and King Louis XIV became popularly known as the "Sun King" with absolute monarchy attached to his name. He was the most affluent ruler of his time. Absolute Monarchy reached its prime during his reign.

But he couldn't have done this without his Finance Minister, Jean-Baptiste Colbert. The latter's relentless hard work and
thrift

made him an esteemed minister. He achieved a reputation for his work of improving the state of French manufacturing and bringing the economy back from the brink of bankruptcy. However, after Colbert's death soon rise the fall of King Louis XIV's power. His reign were soon beset with problems. Without Colbert, King Louis XIV's reign would've not been as successful.

Which lead me to the hypothesis: so Virgos would make up the best Finance Ministers? Without Colbert, King Louis XIV wouldn't have been as famous as that.

In the accountancy school where I graduated from, Virgos rule the honors list in this manner:

2005: Val.: Virgo
2006: Val.: Virgo
2007: Sal.: Virgo (valedictorian is a Libra)
2008: Sal.: Virgo (5th placer in the boards)
2010: Val.: Virgo

I have no idea with other batches. I graduated in 2008.

Colbert's quotes are:

"It is simply, and solely, the abundance of money within a state [which] makes the difference in its grandeur and power."

"The art of taxation consists in so plucking the goose as to obtain the largest amount of feathers with the least possible amount of hissing."

Colbert was born August 29, 1619.
King Louis XIV on September 5, 1638.

I like this topic. Enough of all the pop stars and actors, let's talk about truly significant people in history.

There was another Louis who reigned as the king on France, Louis XVI. His faith however was unfortunately, he tried to clear up the financial mess left by his predecessor Louis the Fifteenth but the revolution was underway and he got axed.
Still, he followed the ideals of enlightenment. He also said he "must always consult public opinion; it is never wrong." - at the time a radical view by a monarch.

King Louis XVI is also a Virgo, August 23, 1754. 🙂

He wasn't really interested in governing the State. @_@ The Sun King on the other hand just wows me. He and Queen Elizabeth I are the best Virgo leaders the world has ever known. Do you know any other?

But Jean-Baptiste Colbert is just amazing! Without him, this would've not been possible:
