You don’t have to worry about your venus retrograde. It doesn’t affect your synastry contacts, it should still work the same as even if it wasn’t retrograde.

Usually though it’s ideal attraction when the males “yang” (masculine) planets aspects the females “yin” (feminine) planets. Reason is because they are in their element.

So man’s mars conjunct females venus is ideal because mars is masculine, venus is feminine. So if you’re a guy and you mars is conjunct a girls venus that is ideal because they are in their element. Your yin and yang work together effortlessly, to your her male ideal and she your female ideal.
