I've found that most men think bracelets are girly. Maybe he thought it was girly but didn't want to hurt your feelings because he likes you and wants to appreciate your gift.

Nobody likes to get silver chains for their birthday!
My bestie got his girlfriend a really skinny flimsy silver braclet last year for her birthday and he showed me first and I was like "is it too late to take it back"? It was just embarrassing! Anyways he gave it to her and her reaction was just sad, anyways he ended up taking it back.
What's even sadder is that he bought himself this badass signet ring with 6 garnets in it (garner is his birth stone) a couple months after her birthday....in the back of my mind I was thinking that's a pretty douchie thing to do. I say that because I am HUGE on gifts! They are very special to me. Not the gift itself but the sentiment behind it, giving someone a token that resonates with a certain facet of said persons being has powerful repercussions. To thoughtlessly give someone a gift is so heart wrenchingly sad to me especially if that person doesn't like it.
Had my friend put some thought into it he could have gone to an antique store and bought her something that had been previously loved and cherished. Aquarians love technology but we loved old stuff too. New things come and go out with the trash but old treasures are something we cherish and go ballistic over when we can't find it.
I don't know why people are so thoughtless these days
