Is this his way of finding out how I feel?

So been casually seeing this aqua guy for over a year everything has been fine. No arguments or anything, we get on quite well.

Last few weeks for 1 reason or another I haven't been able to see him (he's been trying desperately).

Yesterday he says "for his own well being" we shouldn't see each other anymore. After a few msgs I said "if that's how you feel I have to respect that, hope all works out the way you want it to". He then says thanks and that when I find the right man he'll be a very lucky man indeed.

I responded with, as i wouldn't see him again i thought he should know, it wasn't just about sex, I do like him and would've like to get to know him better, but respect his descion.

Not had a response and don't expect 1 anytime soon as that's how he is. I just kinda feel a bit tricked into telling him this as I've always been very guarded whenever he's been trying to dig and get a feel for how I'm feeling about things, as I don't want to get hurt. As he's usually quite detached.

Just wondering if this is something you aqua guys would do to find out how someone feels—

He probably thought you didn't want to see him as it could have appeared to him that you weren't making efforts. Most people make an effort to see someone when they like them. So, he got tired of trying and being turned down, so he just cut ties. Wouldn't anyone? A person can only take so much rejection.

I don't think he was trying to trick you. You volunteered that, he didn't ask, didn't trick. All he said was for his own well being he didn't think you should see each other anymore. That was self respect, not a trick.

OK I definitely get what you're saying. I would be the same. However, it was always last minute and as a mother I'm not in a position to drop everything and just run at his beck and call. Whenever I couldn't see him I would always let him know when I was available, yet he wouldn't bother or be free at those times.

You made efforts, nothing else you could have done. He could have worked with you on that.

That's kinda how I feel to be honest. It's not like we fell out or anything. Just odd how 2 days before he was desperately trying to get hold of me, then says he'd rather not see me anymore.

Like I said if that's how he feels I have to respect it and move on.

It's a shame though, best sex I've ever had lol
