Well, it's a bit difficult to explain, but it seemed to have really made people express what they felt about this place, and it seems a lot of people don't like it, and they don't really have any good reasons for staying, and then, naturally, people started talking about leaving. Kinda makes me think, did he post so much, became a cornerstone on the Aqua board(80,000 posts is no joke), just so he'd see how will his leaving affect people?

Ah, I see, thanks for explaining Yama. I do remember reading somewhere that he had a goal of reaching a certain amt. of posts (sorry Prime, I do not remember the exact amt. in case you are lurking about). To each their own I suppose - hopefully, he did reach his goal and it has fulfilled him in some way. :-)

"just so he'd see how will his leaving affect people?" sounds like if this is the case...he may be a bit insecure? hmmm....

"...and this seems a good experiment as any."

as good an experiment as lighting a match to your own anal gases to see if it will spark the next revolution in sustainable energy. Sounds kinda interesting but implausible and naive at the same time. And in keeping with this metaphor, I thought Primegen was full of shit. He had some warped agenda in terms of prolifically posting obscure articles in which women were "the baddies". If there was some kinda unscientific experiment going on I think it was that he was bigheaded enough to think he could sway people's mindsets to be as anti-real_women as he is simply by the sheer multitude of these articles as if it was insurmountable proof that there really is a scandalous imbalance of justice favouring women over men across the board.

I think due to the fact that Primegen was an avid poster, he did amass a following of certain of users and in his departure, perhaps they felt that without him DXP was just a pale shadow of what it used to be!!

Anyway I just think all these messages from users announcing their departures from DXP land is stoopid. Just don't post anymore if you're fed up with the state of play in DXPland! What's with all melodrama attached? I feel like violins should be playing in the backround or something. Are we supposed to be begging them not to go? Or asking them why they felt that it had come down to this point? Or are we supposed to be reading something between the lines of their farewells? Guys if you're not getting anything out of posting on DXP then just don't post anymore simple as that. Or if you wanna say what you find not nice about DXP then do so. But I don't really get the point of these long drawn out messages unless it's just to placate their egos or something.

Alert to all DXP-ers......I came upon a msg. from the Primegen - he asked that I post this for him.

From: Alien Primegen

Sure, it seems easy being a space alien. You've got your x-ray
vision, your late model space ships and media coverage galore. But,
as usual with most glamour jobs, there's a lot of nitty gritty work
the public doesn't get to see. The job can become routine, and even
a bit tedious, as we learned when we stumbled upon this intriguing
page from...

S P A C E A L I E N ' S L O G B O O K

***********************************************

8:15 AM Leave asteroid for work.

9:00 AM Hover over cornfield on outskirts of small Midwestern town.

9:30 AM Land in backyard where housewife is hanging laundry.
Silence barking dog with penetrating gaze.

10:00 AM Stun housewife with laser-gun or energy pulsating finger-
tips. Levitate her body just long enough to be glimpsed by a passing
motorist. Materialize the body inside spaceship.

Remove internal organs; weigh, label and categorize. Return most, if
not all, to the body. Erase all traces of surgery.

Rematerialize housewife in backyard. Turn back time two hours. Bid
enigmatic good-bye. Leave.

1:00 PM Visit once prestigious astronomer who everyone thinks has
gone mad. Deliver pep talk. Leave him fist-sized fragments of an
unidentifiable element.

2:15 PM Drop by Whitley Strieber's house, pick up royalty check from
best seller. Communion.

3:00 PM It's Saturday; Beam Mulder psychic impressions where to go
next.

3:20 PM Hover over southwestern desert.

3:30 PM Offer psychotic drifter a lift.

4:30 PM Pose for cover of "Weekly World News" with Pres. Bush,
Discuss ozone depletion, space travel, scandal evasion, future
political endorsements.

6:30 PM Back at the asteroid. Introduce psychotic drifter to other
aliens from DXP. Listen to Windham Hill.

9:00 PM Dinner. Eat drifter.

10:00 PM Wash antennae, brush eyeballs, peel off outer layer of
skin. Beam cryptic message to NASA satellite. Lights out.

People take this board way too seriously...It seems that when a person makes a decision to stop posting, and especially with all the pomp and circumstance that many posters have, they are trying to make a point about something, and that something is somehow related to being emotionally dependent and not being loved enough as a child. It's because of needing some sort of self-validation and assurance that so many posters have bid their "fare thee wells" and decided with much bravado to take their last bows on the stage of DXP (to their own applause nonetheless)...sorry, not that I have anything against any of you (I really don't know any of you well enough), but come on, why?!?). I once thought I was never going to post on DXP again, because of the negative, misanthropic slandering that has somehow become trendy on DXP (from racism, to misogeny, to homophobia, and even xenophobia, it's all here at DXP, perfected to an art form even Archie Bunker couldn't rival). I was starting to lose faith in people at an even faster rate than had been the case as a result of working at my second job, which is at a Casino (seemingly impossible considering casinos attract pretty much anyone and everyone lacking in any form of humanity). But in the midst of these new cult of personalities that were forming (I won't name any names), I decided not to take this board so seriously (also because I realized that most of these individuals only come across that way in their posts just to stroke their egos)...but anyhow, for anyone who wants to take this board that seriously, I'd say get a life...but then again, if you had one, you wouldn't be taking this much time out of it to bid your farewells or whatever.

oh, btw, I am one of those people I mentioned above who doesn't really have a life and spends way too much time lingering on DXP (but that's also b/c it's pretty difficult to have a life working 70+ hours a week). Just thought I'd add that point, so as not to seem that I'm distancing myself from everyone on DXP. 'Sides, I love you all..you just have to stop being so negative and hateful. Thanks notso07 (if that was in reference to my last post)...does that come with a cash prize or a trip out of Michigan?

"When it's a place where I know people face to face. Not generally on a message board. It's a rather pretentious practice to formally announce one's departure from a message board."

It's pretentious to think people you conversed with for thousands of posts to give a shit that you are leaving? Seriously, off of all the threads here, those are the kinds of threads you choose to criticize?

"I don't remember sb, Prime or GL ever mentioning intelligence."

Are you kidding me? Primegen was one of the most condescending and arrogant MF's I've encountered on a message board! He hardly missed an opportunity to try to put me down on the basis of my lowly subordinate job as a telephone receptionist as if this showed I was below average intelligence and was representative of other derrogatory labels. That guy was ego-superiority-arrogance all wrapped up in one little user.

GL is a nice person who I think became disillusioned with her expectations of DXP. I think the rows and bickering got to her so she decided to call it day. This is what I picked up from her announcement although she never explained explicitly what she was leaving.

I did not read enough into sb posts to be able to form any opinion of her one way or the other.
