If their rarity or transcendence were expressed through their personality, then it would be hard for me not to be interested. If not, I always dig deeper even if the outward is exceedingly rare/interesting and couldn’t possibly be overshadowed by the inward. But rarity alone isn’t a prerequisite enough for me to care. If they had severe character flaws I would be able overlook them until I’ve figured out what makes them tick. But I woudn’t care about them either way. That is of course if we assume interest and care are not interchangeable. I have a hard time distinguishing the two

With that in mind, try to put yourself in Cary's shoes - obviously let's not take into account the age difference because irrelevant to the point I'm trying to make. You lock eyes with her and you're left speechless: for the very first time you've been presented with something / someone who could be considered the embodiment of femininity. With someone who is so much of a woman, in her purest and most complicated form, that she's not even supposed to "exist" because too ideal. As if her beauty / femininity was so overbearing (and for a man empowering at the same time) that in a sense it transcended and became universal, to the point you stop caring.
Think about it, I know it's controversial but wouldn't be quite something to just look at someone and be able to say that's it! I'm so pleased with what I see that although I know this has started as something purely physical is now just as mental.
