If you had the chance to travel to two states paying $ 1000, would you?

I've been invited to go to Washington state and then Portland for a little over a week, but it'll cost me $ 1000. I've never been to either of those states, and it would be a great adventure. It would fall under my "step outside your box" mantra, but I'm frightened by that price tag because it's a lot of money all at once. I need to RSVP tonight.

What would you do?

Lol, you goise! An overwhelmingly positive response! 😆

My boyfriend's aunt is getting married in Seattle, Washington, so his family is going. Both he and his mother have invited me to go. So it will be my BF, his mom, her husband, my BF's brother and his girlfriend.

$ 500 for the tickets and $ 500 for living expenses (hotel in Portland, food, entertainment, etc.)

My BF said that, while we have to understandably be involved with the family, we could also do our own thing (especially when we make it to Portland, Oregon.)

He said that, while he'd understand if I didn't go because that is a reasonable decision, he said he'd very much like for me to go and he'd go out of his way. He offered to pay for my ticket so I would only have to pay $ 500, but that's so much money, it almost hurts for me to accept. He said that, in the grand scheme of things, $ 500 isn't intimidating to him because he'd just work more and make more money. But I'm not sure if it's right for me to let him pay that much.

I have never been to either state, so I would definitely do research to try and put together a solid and realistic itinerary to make the most of my visits.

Thank you all for your input. What you said and have to say is much appreciated.

I liked your post, but I should have said- YES BLOODY GO
Life's too short.
travel travel travel (my own country mostly so not that exxy $ $ $ )
I did heaps when I was younger and ten years later the money was never going t o be the issue.

I mean, yes, you're poor, but you're richer for the experience lol
Lol, thanks Wagtail! Honestly, I can't help but think if I sacrifice for the rest of the year, and find a second job for the summer, then maybe I can make up the money.

My BF also offered to go halfsies, he said we can each pay $ 750. But, again, that's a lot of money. If I were to accept, I would definitely have to pay him back.

Yes, it's in August. I definitely want to go bike riding, and if I can see water animals in their habitats then that would really make one of my life's dreams come true.

His mother is purchasing the tickets. I'm sure she wants to make sure we are a group and together.

@LillyPetal I just wanted to add...
it's your boyfriends aunt, getting married.
So to be 100% honest my take is- if he or his fam want you to come- they should pay. All of it.
You have to buy a new dress, maybe shoes, maybe a little makeup. Maybe a cab to and from venues, maybe chip in for a wedding gift...
There's expenses on expenses for wedding guests, if you are invited but it's not your immediate family and you're relationship is less than a year old, he should be paying for the tickets and basic accommodation expenses etc
Just my opinion, BUT I would wanna pay my own way too.

That is actually a decent price to travel there, especially for a week imo. I lived in BC for awhile 3 years ago, and have been to Seattle and Portland. You should go, the nature around the Pacific West is a paradise on earth! When it's not raining cats and dogs hehe

It's totally right... he invited you.

However, it shouldn't be your choice-- if you decide

to go, he should just get it before you can protest, which

he probably will.

I've lived in FL my whole life, I'm sick of white Sandy beaches and fucking palm trees. It's not all its cracked up to be. Sand gets fucking everywhere and in everything and palm trees are just pathetic excuses for trees. It's fucking hot and humid and sticky.......except that one cold day we get each year. Seriously I don't know why people come here.
One winter in the snow is all you need.

You'll be piling the sand into car and shoes, when

you go home to visit, just so you can take some back

with you up north. 😭

Trust me.

Stay coastal.

Ha! Lawrence has some of Hollywood's best expressions. I love her personality.

An itinerary to make sure he and I are able to maximize our visit. Of course, itineraries are meant to provide us with plans from which to stray and wander. 😄

I'll see him tomorrow and finally decide on a...well decision.

Look I'm from PNW I don't think that's a great trip unless you're going to the coast. Orcas island, Seattle, Portland, Vancouver BC!

But I'm a lover of Cali and east coast so maybe you'll like it

I feel 1k is crazy pricey
Are you kidding? there is so much to do and so much more than forests and beer places! I make as many trips back home as i can afford, it's beautiful.

Lily loves the outdoors ( if i recall correctly) , she would love the PNW. she also seems to be sorta of a hippie chick type ( i may be way off base with that), very eclectic and frree spirtied, she will fit right in and most likely have the time of her life.

Lily there is so much to see and amazing places to visit, however $ 1k seems a tad steep. does that cover flgihts, hotel and a car?

Portland rains more than seattle so brings hats and an umbrella!

not too expensive and i think august is a great time to spot some You can even go the less expensive route, take the ferry from Anacortes to Friday harbor.. it takes you through parts of the islands they migrate through. It woudl be a day trip for sure if you staying downtown Seattle. Anacortes is a few hours north and the ferry ride is at least an hour. Friay Harber is a cute little town that you can stroll aorund and grab a nice dinner, then take the ferry back at sundown....very romatnic 😉

not that i have done that or anything...

Yes, the $ 1000 is for flights and living expenses. For what it's worth, 'Portlandia' is one of my favorite shows ("Put a bird on it!") You are right when you say I love the outdoors. My Taurus brother calls me a hippie, and you just reminded me of that. Thanks for the umbrella tip; I wouldn't have thought to bring one. When my final decision is made, I will pick both your and CC's brains (as well as anyone else's) on what you recommend I do/see/eat.

You are welcome! I do hope you go and hope you see some orcas.. there is nothing like it and the sounds they make, its awe inspiring! The ferry trip is worth it even if you don't see any. Being on the water with your sweetheart... what more does one need?

I'm a nature/animal loving romantic lolol but don't tell anyone... i gotta keep my mean exterior and all 😛
