how to tell someone you don't want them to leave

lets say he decides that he doesn't want to be in a relationship but he wants to be my friend. I want us to stay as boyfriend and girlfriend..because we made a lot of nice memories together and we are really close, it will be like we don't know each other again. I don't think I can be his friend..

I kind of brought up emotional things like never being able to cuddle, kiss, or hold hands anymore..no more falling asleep together and showering together. no more video calling or kissing through the phone

his voice cracked and he said "what?" when I said all those things

he's going through stressful times, so I don't want to force him to stay with me. I wish he did xD
