You allowed complete strangers, people you don't know from Adam, to affect you so adversely, in the same way a family member or lover would hurt you in an argument.

I did not label you. But I told you tell the truth.
Cheating is a sin. Telling lies is a sin.
Jesus suffered to show us not to identify with our sins. That release does not suggest to do a new sin right after the last one's feelings of guilt have vanished.
The reason why we are afraid of what other people think about us
is
that we've been like them for a long time. Juding others.
Like if you have found old people disgusting the whole time and then one day you find out that you are old. So you feel bad. You feel you are ugly and smelling bad and all the stuff.
So you've been previously a "good girl" meaning there are these "disgusting bad girls out there". All of a sudden you are one of them. This is what bothers you. If you think you only did a mistake, then focus on doing the right things in future. That is simple. Focusing on what gossip girls say is a battle you cannot win. No need to defend yourself. Just aim to be good in future.
Of course you don't owe the ex anything. But this is not the way we handle each other. We, as humans, have this thing called EMPATHY.
Empathy makes that we release each other from further suffering if it is in our power.
You need not to swim in ex's pains. But it is a better start for him to know the whole truth.
But if you are weak and cannot carry that big burdon, that will automatically drive you to optimize the situation only for yourself.
Whether it is really that optimal, you'll know it later. This is why principals come to the game. For when the brain is tired. In case of doubt follow the hard cold principles.
Yet I don't insist. Every solution has good and bad sides to it.

You asked for advice, we told you not to lie, you lied, then you planned a trip and were gonna have your mom pick your shit up. Then to top it all, still gonna lie by keeping your new man on the DL.
People are aggro, because once again, here is someone who isn't serious at all and just wanted validation for her to take the easy way instead of the right way.
