Help me understand this Cancer male?

I know a Cancer sun, Scorpio moon, Scorpio rising w/ Mars in Gemini and Virgo in Venus. I will say something and he will act like he cares and I'll reply to that with something nice & sincere like I thought I hurt his feelings and he'd reply with "I was just kidding, haha I don't care!" even though it seems as if he does.
Do Cancer males do this, act like they care but then say they don't?
Once I told him that he was cooler, nicer, and smarter than me(immature I know but we're only 13 and we were extremely bored) then he asked me probably three or four more times over the past 2-3 weeks after I said that how he was and inisted that I myself was the cooler, nicer, and smarter one but then when I say "No, you are, he says fine we're equal." But I really don't think that we're equal, he's the cooler, nicer, ect one. Is there anyway to make him believe that? Any ideas on how to make him feel more comfortable around me? What should I or should not do with a Cancer w/ these placements? Thank you.

We are compatiable for the most part too as I'm a Scorpio sun, Pisces rising, Scorpio moon w/ Leo mars and Scorpio venus.

Also I know Crabs need emotional security but it seems when I let on that I care about him and want to make him happy he pulls away from it and the tone in his voice is very "you're weird" - like. Maybe it's because he's been hurt time after time in the past and his home life isn't great either. I think that even though it hurts me for him to feel like he's "rejecting" my love(relationship wise or not, he doesn't know that I like him) I think I need to contiune showing my affection towards him, maybe he's just afraid to get attached this time hopefully he'll come through though but when we talk on IM he says how I make him happy then I'll say "but alot of people make you happy" and then he'll say "no, not many at all." It's like he's more comfortable telling how he really feels online, is that bad or common?

I keep thinking of things that might be important. Sometimes he seems like he doesn't want to talk to me, but when I back away he starts saying how he wants to talk and that he doesn't want to talk to anyone else(even though half the time we're talking about boring crap but yet he still wants to talk to me) and I liked this one guy and probably twice he's asked me if I still like him...is he being nice or does he like me? I've read some threads on here and apparently if a Cancer isn't interested in you, they'll let it know well he hasn't said anything to me regarding that but then again he doesn't know that I like him so maybe that's why(you notice how I'm weighing out things...yeah that's my mercury Libra lol) anyhow, to add onto my questions does this seem like he likes me if he's a typical Cancer guy?
