Posted by lnana04Some of the cons also have a positive side.
I think I'd pass too. You listed way too many cons lol.

Posted by themagnetorebornNo lies. I posted about the interview a week or two before I got engaged.
First you get engaged and now you have a job offer?
Lies.

Posted by AstrobynI did. They came back with more but I don't think they can afford what I really want.
how much more do you need to take it? and if you are leaning toward not taking it because its not enough money.. why not just tell them, what you will take the position for, and why.

Posted by ElleDuMondeShe did say that after everything is comfortable and settled in, and the staff is up to par, I probably could work from home a couple of days a week. But that might be a year from now looking at it realistically.Posted by AstrobynThis.

Negotiate the salary to a point where it would benefit. Could you also negotiate one day a week working at home?
Remember, you are doing them a service...not vice versa. If you have that many cons....go big and ask for exactly what you want to lesson the blow to your quality of life.
The milennials do it....so can we 😛click to expand

Posted by truecapIt is not
One day I'll talk myself into taking the new job.
The next day, I'll talk myself out of it.
I have no idea what to do. What if I hate it?
And it's not going to benefit me financially in the current time. Whereas it could benefit me financially in the future.
I'll probably think of more pros and cons. My future mother-in-law (virgo) said to make a list.
I'll have to let them know something probably by tomorrow, so HELP!!!!!
Is it worth it? Or is it not?
Errrgggg!!!! So hard to know the best solution.

Posted by ElleDuMonde^^^ this exactly!
I would never pit my current employer against a new one...do not threaten with a two week notice to get more at the current job. As a manager myself....someone does that....I will help them pack their things.

Posted by TaurusinTexasDidn't think about negotiating PTO. Good point!
I have to agree with the ppl saying negotiate. You have all the power right now and they have wiggle room they can at least get you to 10k more than your current job, i would ask for 12k and another week of PTO, never underestimate PTO - if nothing else they have room to move in the PTO.

Posted by ElleDuMondeI agree. When I was in management, i would be ok bye.

Posted by truecapThis kind of jumped out at me.
Con: I'd be responsible for a staff that has a LOT of issues. Entitlement issues. Production issues. Attitude issues. Jealousy issues. Probably even quality issues (not sure on that one). I'd also do some training and interact with a lot of other departments.
Pro: I know without a doubt I could address the issues and I'm comfortable with that. I know I can do this job and it's what I'm good at.
Con: The facility is looking for a buyer/partner to help financially. So, if there is a buyer how safe is this position?

Posted by younowhoI know, right!
True cap you should check the transits for it is giving you so many good changes !

Posted by truecapSuspect. That is all.
I agree Elle.
I didn't actively search for this one. It found me. I was approached by the Director and was asked to interview. Almost like she recruited me.

Okay, so I got the job offer. Yay!!!
Super congrats!🙂

Must say, since you apparently feel it's something you can handle, this is not even a con for me - it's a challenge. YaY!
Con: One hour one-way, so two hours on the road every day.
Pro: Alone time.
We're all different, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I'd actually like this. I once worked 1.5hours away from home - loved it! And with your upcomming wedding, I am going to assume that you are going to live together and as a cap, I can say that at least I need loads of me time.
Con: The facility is looking for a buyer/partner to help financially. So, if there is a buyer how safe is this position?
Pro: The opportunity to work with some different people, programs and ways of doing things. Assisting with the transition.
Okay, here is the first real con for me. Imo, talk to them about this. Must admit, I would require some gurantees. I want to know for sure that I'll be able to pay my bills next month also. But that's me.
Con: I will have to give up working from home.
Pro: Interacting with people and learning new skills.
Ouch! The ability to work from home is a great advantage, imo. Don't know what to say about this - how much does it mean to you?
Con: I could stagnate where I'm at currently. Like a career stop.
Pro: I could learn the skills to become more marketable in the future.
Don't see the con here. These are to me two pro:s for getting the new job.
Fact: I'm 48 years old so do I really want to keep climbing or would I like to stabilize and be comfortable?
Oh dear. And here I thought you were a Capricorn. 😉
Con: Cool people, relaxed atmosphere with a cool, fun boss.
Pro: Getting away from my inconsistent current boss.
That means a lot. Do you Think your current boss will be there for long?
Fact: I know the nature of the Beast where I'm at. I don't know the Beast where I'd be going.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's your job to make you're at as great as possible and I'm sure you'll do just fine. If it would for some reason be impossible, at least you tried and still have a job while looking for another one. Imo.
Even: They have the same issues we have where I'm am currently. Only difference is there I might be able to have input to help solve issues and here I'm expected to do my job and keep my mouth shut (very hard for me! lol!)
Huge difference, imo.

Posted by LostPiscesI'm 48, better not be any more kids!!! lol!

If not I would accept it.

Posted by SensitiveBluesI love working from home, but It does have it's drawbacks. You have to make an effort to get social connections- very tempting to become a home body. And it gets old dressing sloppy comfy every day.
I would never give up working from home...i work in an office right now...that's a dream

Posted by SssupesThat's why I want it. I want the challenge, the opportunity to make a difference. It's what I'm good at and I won't be bored. But, I've figured out it's not in my best interest financially. Now, if it paid quite a bit more, I'd love to have this job. It's just not enough to take on the added responsibility and the drive. Of course, where I'm at you have to have a minimal of a 45 minute drive to make any money. But, I'm on Dallas wages sitting at home in East Texas....so..... it is a pretty cushy deal I have right now.
Since when have you ever run from a challenge? You love a good workplace challenge and you won't be bored. You got this

Posted by truecapIf I was you, I take the risk.
I really do appreciate everyone's input. It has been helpful hashing out the pros and cons.
I think I've decided that since it's not a benefit financially, it's better to stay where I'm at. I'm not that unhappy here but I get frustrated with the boss quite a bit. But, she's really a nice person deep down. Just either insecure or in over her head, can't figure out which.
I feel like to make a move, it should have a good, strong financial benefit. Though, the new job could set me up better for future career moves.
Posted by truecapJust be sure to inform them of the reason why you won't take it. You never know...🙂

I am indecisive on whether I want to take it. I want the job. It sounds perfect for me. However, I don't think it's going to pay enough to take on the added responsibility and an hour (one way) drive. It's $ 8,000 more than what I make now, but it will only be a break even financially. Gas for the drive. Two hours a day of my time driving. My current company pays my internet cost, which I will have to pay on my own. And I'm losing one week of paid PTO.
