Okay, so I got the job offer. Yay!!!!

I am indecisive on whether I want to take it. I want the job. It sounds perfect for me. However, I don't think it's going to pay enough to take on the added responsibility and an hour (one way) drive. It's $ 8,000 more than what I make now, but it will only be a break even financially. Gas for the drive. Two hours a day of my time driving. My current company pays my internet cost, which I will have to pay on my own. And I'm losing one week of paid PTO.

Con: I'd be responsible for a staff that has a LOT of issues. Entitlement issues. Production issues. Attitude issues. Jealousy issues. Probably even quality issues (not sure on that one). I'd also do some training and interact with a lot of other departments.
Pro: I know without a doubt I could address the issues and I'm comfortable with that. I know I can do this job and it's what I'm good at.

Con: One hour one-way, so two hours on the road every day.
Pro: Alone time.

Con: The facility is looking for a buyer/partner to help financially. So, if there is a buyer how safe is this position?
Pro: The opportunity to work with some different people, programs and ways of doing things. Assisting with the transition.

Con: I will have to give up working from home.
Pro: Interacting with people and learning new skills.

Con: I could stagnate where I'm at currently. Like a career stop.
Pro: I could learn the skills to become more marketable in the future.
Fact: I'm 48 years old so do I really want to keep climbing or would I like to stabilize and be comfortable?

Con: Cool people, relaxed atmosphere with a cool, fun boss.
Pro: Getting away from my inconsistent current boss.
Fact: I know the nature of the Beast where I'm at. I don't know the Beast where I'd be going.

Even: They have the same issues we have where I'm am currently. Only difference is there I might be able to have input to help solve issues and here I'm expected to do my job and keep my mouth shut (very hard for me! lol!)

Pro: I'd like the challenge and making a difference (hopefully)
Con: I'm bored, but I'm comfortable.

Fact: If the pay was significantly more, I'd take it in a heart beat.

One day I'll talk myself into taking the new job.
The next day, I'll talk myself out of it.

I have no idea what to do. What if I hate it?
And it's not going to benefit me financially in the current time. Whereas it could benefit me financially in the future.

I'll probably think of more pros and cons. My future mother-in-law (virgo) said to make a list.

I'll have to let them know something probably by tomorrow, so HELP!!!!!

Is it worth it? Or is it not?

Errrgggg!!!! So hard to know the best solution.

Good advice here.

I will just tell them I will have to turn it down because it's not a benefit to me financially. Plus, I do have a lot of other exciting things going on. A wedding and new marriage will be stressful and distracting enough, don't need to add more to it.

If they really want me, they will find a way. Otherwise they can get what they pay for. Not that I'm special, but I do have a lot to offer.

how much more do you need to take it? and if you are leaning toward not taking it because its not enough money.. why not just tell them, what you will take the position for, and why.
This.

Negotiate the salary to a point where it would benefit. Could you also negotiate one day a week working at home?

Remember, you are doing them a service...not vice versa. If you have that many cons....go big and ask for exactly what you want to lesson the blow to your quality of life.

The milennials do it....so can we 😛

She did say that after everything is comfortable and settled in, and the staff is up to par, I probably could work from home a couple of days a week. But that might be a year from now looking at it realistically.

It is not

NOT Worth It.

It is not going to benefit you, financially.

I say that based mostly on you, and your reaction.

You're ehhh

You have a sweet setup, right now... the perfect setup to keep floating

until something worthy of your talent comes along, that is going to

make you an offer you cannot refuse.

Use the cons on your list to negotiate with your potentially new employer what you want whether it is more $ $ $ , 4 day work week instead of 5, company car or stipend towards commuting expenses etc etc.

I started a new job in April and was able to negotiate a base salary on top of commissions, originally the offer was only commission based pay.

If you don't ask you'll never get.

When truly split, I put in my notice, citing the new opportunity as the reason. Make statements indicating a similar offer would definitely keep me, but I have to go where the opportunity is.

If a reasonable offer is made, I stay in my comfort zone with a slight raise or promotion.

However, the cons you listed are enough I wouldn't be on the fence. Breaking even today could be a pay cut tomorrow, when you throw in that many variables and distance. If relocation isn't an option, the job wouldn't be either.

This kind of jumped out at me.
You do some searches on this company, the business they're in, indications on performance in their market?
The issues you mention can have varying degrees, but tied in with the company looking for a buyer/partner may point to systemic problems.
Is the position new or is it a backfill?

Must say, since you apparently feel it's something you can handle, this is not even a con for me - it's a challenge. YaY!

Con: One hour one-way, so two hours on the road every day.
Pro: Alone time.
We're all different, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I'd actually like this. I once worked 1.5hours away from home - loved it! And with your upcomming wedding, I am going to assume that you are going to live together and as a cap, I can say that at least I need loads of me time.

Con: The facility is looking for a buyer/partner to help financially. So, if there is a buyer how safe is this position?
Pro: The opportunity to work with some different people, programs and ways of doing things. Assisting with the transition.
Okay, here is the first real con for me. Imo, talk to them about this. Must admit, I would require some gurantees. I want to know for sure that I'll be able to pay my bills next month also. But that's me.

Con: I will have to give up working from home.
Pro: Interacting with people and learning new skills.
Ouch! The ability to work from home is a great advantage, imo. Don't know what to say about this - how much does it mean to you?

Con: I could stagnate where I'm at currently. Like a career stop.
Pro: I could learn the skills to become more marketable in the future.

Don't see the con here. These are to me two pro:s for getting the new job.

Fact: I'm 48 years old so do I really want to keep climbing or would I like to stabilize and be comfortable?
Oh dear. And here I thought you were a Capricorn. 😉

Con: Cool people, relaxed atmosphere with a cool, fun boss.
Pro: Getting away from my inconsistent current boss.

That means a lot. Do you Think your current boss will be there for long?

Fact: I know the nature of the Beast where I'm at. I don't know the Beast where I'd be going.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's your job to make you're at as great as possible and I'm sure you'll do just fine. If it would for some reason be impossible, at least you tried and still have a job while looking for another one. Imo.

Even: They have the same issues we have where I'm am currently. Only difference is there I might be able to have input to help solve issues and here I'm expected to do my job and keep my mouth shut (very hard for me! lol!)
Huge difference, imo.

Cont'd
Pro: I'd like the challenge and making a difference (hopefully)
Con: I'm bored, but I'm comfortable.
Bored is not good. Live a little.🙂

Fact: If the pay was significantly more, I'd take it in a heart beat.

Negotiate. Tell the "new" job about your issues and they may be able to do something to sweaten the deal. Does your current workplace know about this job offer? Maybe that would make them consider some changes there in the case you don't take the new job.
Now, talking about money. Do you feel a need of a higher income than your current one? Seems it would even out in the end, so you would still be comfortable. Have you talked about salary progress?(don't know the English word for it. Sorry.) In conclusion, I wouldn't make that decision until I talked to them again about the security issue and until I had negotiated the deal further. Super good luck!🙂

*Edit: Just to make myself clear. I am not suggesting you pit the "new" and the "old" jobs against each other. At all.

First you get engaged and now you have a job offer?
Lies.
No lies. I posted about the interview a week or two before I got engaged.
I still don't believe you.
why are you having an issue with this?

not everyone on this site is a lonely troll living in their mother's basement.....posting while eating their third bag of doritos.

many of us have some pretty amazing lives.

Since when have you ever run from a challenge? You love a good workplace challenge and you won't be bored. You got this
That's why I want it. I want the challenge, the opportunity to make a difference. It's what I'm good at and I won't be bored. But, I've figured out it's not in my best interest financially. Now, if it paid quite a bit more, I'd love to have this job. It's just not enough to take on the added responsibility and the drive. Of course, where I'm at you have to have a minimal of a 45 minute drive to make any money. But, I'm on Dallas wages sitting at home in East Texas....so..... it is a pretty cushy deal I have right now.

I really do appreciate everyone's input. It has been helpful hashing out the pros and cons.

I think I've decided that since it's not a benefit financially, it's better to stay where I'm at. I'm not that unhappy here but I get frustrated with the boss quite a bit. But, she's really a nice person deep down. Just either insecure or in over her head, can't figure out which.

I feel like to make a move, it should have a good, strong financial benefit. Though, the new job could set me up better for future career moves.

If I was you, I take the risk.
You know where you're now and you can prove more that you are.
The new job can open new doors for you.
You will meet different people. These people will recognize your work and can call you for a meeting.
Future is unpredictable but you have to make it happens.
Money is not all about you know!

My advise: Move to that Job!
