Big wedding or elopement?

Curious what everyone's thoughts are on these.

As mentioned before, I love nice things. However, I'm not a big wedding kind of gal. Knowing that for that entire ceremony and reception, all eyes will be on me. I also don't like gowns. I'm an elopement kind of person.

Also... I hate to say this. But I think big weddings are too much money spent in one day. I blame my thrifty ass. I'd rather save the money for something else.

Tell me which one you prefer and why?

Your thread are so weird. LOL! ..

It was about single mom getting back in the dating scene and then now a marriage is in the air? Ayyyye Gemini...

Reminded me of a Leo gf who got a messy divorce with a Cap and then 6 months later, got married to another Cap. She told me she wanted to be single for a few years but alas! 🤣🤣

I was talking about this with the gem. Strange how within a generation weddings went from simple affairs (backyard/park venues, potlucks) to extravagant debt inducing status symbols for the middle class.

The most money spent used to be on the rings and maybe the dress. Now people drop thousands on flowers alone, 10k+ on the venue, etc etc. Its wild.

Our friends recently got married and thankfully his parents took care of the bill. But that has its downsides as well. She was venting to me about the stress of planning and how she felt like because her future inlaws were paying it was no longer about what she wanted but what they wanted. Wedding was a beautiful event. But she kept telling me she just wanted to elope and have it be done.

Seems like you have the big wedding for everyone else, not yourself.

I'm pragmatic to a fault and there is a million other things I would rather spend the money on. If we are getting married its a courthouse affair and spend the money on a good prenup attorney. But pretty unnecessary imo. But if he keeps getting promoted I may consider it strongly, lol I kid... mostly.

It really puts things into perspective when you know people who dropped crazy money on a wedding and then are going through a difficult divorce. But not arguing over how to divide assets but rather how to divide the DEBT INCURED FROM THE WEDDING. Stuff of nightmares.

There was a show on netflix, can't remember the name, but it was essentially do you want your dream wedding? Or dream house? Then a wedding planner and relator would show you your options and the couple decides.

I remember one episode where the couple each has their own children so a combined family. And they live like 5/6 people in a 2bd apartment. Of course they choose to blow their money on a wedding. This was right before covid struck so that aged well I'm sure.

Yeah I watched that show too! Thanks for reminding me. Hahah it was like a home deposit or a wedding. And yes, a lot of them chose wedding. There was even a couple who wanted the wedding to be "Instagrammable". Goes to show how people these days value "for show".

For clarification, my libra cousin is having a big wedding in the UK. Another libra cousin had a big wedding few years ago. I never had one. We only signed papers. Made me wonder if I actually missed out on something by not having a big wedding. 🤷‍♀️

Well I got married without a real wedding thanks to a lot of stuff happening at the time. (Buying a house seemed more important also). If I do ever get married again I’d like to have a small wedding. I’ve always wanted a elegant picnic type (have no idea how to explain this) reception and a garden wedding. Maybe like 30 people or so just family and closest friends. A huge wedding feels super overwhelming and but when we did say vows it was just like our 6 closest friends and didn’t really dress up more than wearing a long white coat and some flowers. It’d be nice to have one but only if there is anyone worth marrying at some point. Don’t want to get married for the sake of one alone.

Same for me. Signed papers and that was it. I started wondering if I actually missed out on something by not having that romantic, big wedding. And I wondered if it was in me to actually have a big wedding in the first place. I'm an introvert. I don't really enjoy eyes on me situation. But everyone around me loves it! They kept saying they spent big on the "special" occasion and it's as though it was the proudest moment of their life.

I'm quite a practical person. Always have. I like the look of big weddings. I just can't get myself to imagine being in one. I'm with you on spending it on other things. House. Maybe a vacation. Maybe other investments. And I don't like the idea of having hundreds of people or even thousands in such an occasion. I mean honestly. Who has hundreds of close friends? Not me. Hahaha.

It is a very Venusian show, it is why Libra and many "Show off" types love weddings, the more money spent the better as they see money being spent on them as part of their self worth.

I was going to reply to an earlier comment bringing this up but I am already hated by the Leebs on here for not sitting back and letting them manipulate everyone.

Were both your parents Libras?

Libra Mars mother, Sun and Moon in Libra father.

The saving grace for my mother is she has Saturn in Aries in her 7th.

Funnily she met a man who would be oppressive and Martian in all the wrong ways.

He has Mars in Cancer in a T-square between his Moon and Saturn, imagine a socially adept Hitler, covert, evil behind closed doors, that's my father. Sexism, hates others who have more energy than him or are outspoken, hates everyone who don't think like him or has snarky opinions of them, rather than do something will sit in his complacent arrogance like the Sun shines from his rear. You could say the same about me, words are tricky things and a one sided narrative can be formed, but in the context here, this is all factual. I am introspective.

My mum was actually the more responsive and responsible one, he made everyone else do everything, he just sat on his ass all his life.

I deemed to never become like my father and have achieved everything I set my mind to, I am not the fastest but I do get there in the end and my wife adores this about me that I can at one relax and take lots of time with her and still dedicate myself to the forwards motion and end goals, there is no ultimate end goal, but to journey together until this life ends for us, I want her to be my last, I have suffered enough in this life, I can at least share the love I have for women with her and I will definitely suffer anything to see her happy and see the fruit of what I have inside become something tangible.

I am a feminist in the most grounded and unseen way, Fair, freedom loving, I allow her so much room. We even sleep separately so we can rest well and it keeps things fresh, each others best friend, it is the total opposite of what my child life was like. I am not anti-male I can't be I am one.

I am not the label, I am just me, it just became a realization that the core tenants of feminism, equality, fairness and respect were there already and it lined up, I don't associate with anything, it must be my Uranus trines to Moon and Mars as I don't like being tied down, leads to dogma and arrogance.

Big weddings are totally ok when someone else is footing the bill 😆 My parents and husband paid for ours. There’s some more things I wish I had added like a harpist but at the time I was insanely busy organizing and ordering a million things that I forgot. Should’ve gotten a sword to cut the cake as well. Maybe during a 10th or 20th anniversary party 😛 My actual wedding day was a total blur. I don’t remember much (that’s why you get photographers and videographer). Going into debt for a big wedding isn’t any different from acting like you can afford something you can’t. It’s financially stupid. Either you have the ability to pay for it or you don’t.
