So I was dreaming..."thought" I woke up to see a dark figure standing next to my bed saying "I am not going away" ..

I have had dreams like this before and always involves:

1) me thinking I am awake when I am not

2) darkness

3) a dark figure talking or touching me; always above me in bed or next to it

4) feels like a weight on my chest

5) not being able to talk, loss of breath, can't move or wake up

6) waking up in a panic and anxious state

I have read a lot on sleep paralysis and everyone always has a similar experience as to what I described. Makes me anxious.

What do you think about it?

The first time it happened to me I was in college. I didn't see any dark figures. I woke up because I thought I heard my roommate say something but when I turned over she was sleeping. But I was definitely able to move & see in the dark. I turned to lay on my left side & all of a sudden I felt like someone had crawled into bed with me. Very gentle too like they didn't want to wake me up. It felt like more than one "person" too. The first person laid me on my back & then I felt like someone was sitting on my legs & I couldn't see anything. The room was pitch black. I tried to pray out loud but all I could do was drool. I just remembered my mom & sister talking about it happening to them before when I was in high school & my mom told me she was able to stop it by praying. I said Jesus to myself & could feel the weights coming off of me. I was traumatized. It was around 4 am & I sat up, turned on my light & called my mom. And the funny thing is she answered immediately like it was 4 in the afternoon. That was the worst one I had. After that I knew how to handle it when it did occur. Hasn't happened in quite some time though.

Honestly I call on God & it works every time which makes me question the whole validity of the sleep paralysis theory. Why do so many people experience dark figures & feel things? If it was a simple issue of paralysis I would think your only issue would be moving & speaking.

Yeah!! I actually changed how I sleep, sleep with my head in the other end and it's way better.

I don't wake up and see that man anymore.

I am still weary and sleep with lights on two nights now and wake many times during the night. Look at the time and see how much time I actually have before getting up, and that makes me feel all good ?
I was reading your other thread & I had a similar experience with spiders. Well a spider to be exact. I have arachnophobia like a MF. One night I had gone to bed & was asleep for about an hour when I suddenly woke up & saw a huge black spider hovering over my face. I screamed sooooooo loud & ran into the living room naked (cuz I sleep that way sometimes lol). I begged my sister to check my room & she didn't see anything. She did wait until the next evening to laugh at me standing naked in the living room crying about an imaginary spider. But I wondered what it meant. It was so realistic. I didn't look it up but I will now.

Im open to current scientific studies

and esoteric/ spiritual knowledge of this phenomenon.

In my opinion, ones consciousness is not

a product of the brain but a channel the brain

is able to help translate and connect with.

I feel it is possible for other brains and

locations to experience your consciousness.

When my consciousness was about to leave

my current brain/body I was unable to move.

I got a telepathic message from someone

when I was 16 that I "DON'T MOVE".

Try not to fear what is said for I feel

some thought forms/OBC/Spirit like

to play on what we currently know

to frighten. I take huge offense when

this happens because I know I am

spirit/thought form too but the difference

is that I have a body and like most humans,

I went through the amnesia phase to live out

this experience and forget what came before.

This human experience is sacred to me

and I dont appreciate it when other things

play on my ignorance. My mother made

contact with me through this way 2 weeks

after she passed. Her voice waw clear and

loud in my head (telepathy). This was a more

favorable experience 🙂

The weird part of the dream is the dark figure, I feel, was trying to portray itself as my brother, but I KNOW it was not him. There were similarities yet it was disfigured and demented like...

Also, I heard my fathers voice....

I do not know what was said. But I know for sure I heard it.

Come to find out he had awaken around the same time as me earlier(I got up for a drink and he was in the kitchen)

BUT I think my worst experience was about a year or 2 ago, I was laying in bed with my mother just hanging out watching a movie and I fell asleep. I "woke up" ( I could even hear the movie playing in the back round ) to feel someones arm slowly reaching around me, I had thought it was my mother at the time as she was next to me but I was facing the other way with my eyes closed. It slowly felt like it was starting to suffocate me and I just felt darkness, a weight on my chest, I tried to scream, move, even open my eyes and I could not breathe I then felt the force over come my body almost as if it were on my chest trying to take over... and I finally woke up for real panicking and asking my mom if she was touching me.

I have had multiple occasions where I will "wake up" see a dark figure at the end of my bed (demon like) and I also, cannot move or breathe and I will continually "wake up" and see the same thing over and over almost as if I will never actually wake up and each time the figure gets closer.

These dreams are never really close together. But from time to time.

Normally occurs after a lucid dream or after I wake up in the middle of the night and fall back asleep a little while later.

But I have noticed it is during times of stress, almost as if my weakness is being taken advantage of.

When I was 13 I was about to fall asleep, I hadn't gone to sleep yet. Then I felt this heavy presence come into the room, I can't really describe the feeling but all I know is that it wasn't anything welcoming. The air just felt all heavy, and the only word I can find for it is evil. Well I tried to call on the name of Jesus and it wouldn't let me, I tried moving and I couldn't really move, then as I kept trying to call Jesus the dark presence got heavier, I was screaming Jesus in my head and finally it came out of my mouth, and the dark figure/presence instantly disappeared.

I honestly believe that sleep paralysis is us connecting with the spiritual world in a sense.

I think you are 100% right. It is so.. bizarre! Does not feel like a "dream" and yes the only word you can really think to thoroughly describe it is EVIL... I am not a religious person but this is definitely some spiritual stuff. So makes me nerved up all day afterwards.

I've also experienced it happening to me & I wake up but when I try to lay back down I can feel it about to happen again. It's hard to explain. My mom said that happened to her too. It's almost like you have to stay awake for a minute before attempting to go back to sleep.
YES I started to fall back asleep earlier after it happened and I would start to feel almost drunk like and would start to hear voices and I would snap out of it because I could sense it was about to happen again.

This always works for me & it's an immediate release. I've never struggled with it once I did that. The longest episode for me was that first time in college.

Yes, I believe in Jesus, and this experience made me believe 100% in Him, like it was my shadow of a doubt proof that He's real!

Just call on the name of Jesus if it ever happen to you! I prayed and asked that, this experience wouldn't happen to me again, and it hasn't since I was 13.

Hmm yes.

Kind of like when you are stressed,

you resonate on similar frequency

as those that influence stress.

Fear feeds it too I feel like.

I remember when the voice kept

telling me not to move, I kept saying

"shut up!" I said so many times and

suddeny I was able to move.

My mother would sage the house

a lot too so maybe if you did this,

it would ease negative experiences?

Work on self helps too. Do you meditate?

I have not quite had this experience but did have some early childhood nighttime crises which was very frightening. I watched a lot of spooky stuff and horror movies and believe it or not I believe that has a lot to do with this phenomenon - for me at least - perhaps because I was also having an very hard emotional time with a dysfunctional mother and family. I believe it lowers our psyche and lets the bad enter and it feeds and grows. I was about 8 or 9 when I figured out that if I "stayed in the light and didn't dwell in the darkness" that nothing could get me there. I stopped watching scary stuff and the horrible nighttime scares were gone. I know it sounds silly and hard for me to explain but I continually saw myself surrounded by light even in the darkness. This habit formed somehow and at this age and all I've been through I know that is what saved me. I didn't want to stay in the darkness where bad things live. I decided to stay in the light. I believe it's the same thing with thinking about Jesus or calling his name. Once in awhile even now I will get that feeling that makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck and I speak out to it - whatever it is ... mostly it's outside my house - just this malevolent presence that apparently travels around because I normally feel there is nothing but peace there - and it wants in - but I refuse - I close my mind to even giving it a thought to feed on and open myself to light and goodness and beauty ... I actually speak out to it "go - there is nothing for you here - I am not afraid" ... then I smudge the entrances to my house and I have a chant and I then meditate for a short time - filling my house with light - and it is gone ...

not silly at all.

My mother was the same way with films.

She was extremely sensitive to certain films

as she too felt they aligned her with things

similar to the frequency of the movie.

Certain names like Jesus have a energy

I feel attached to it that influences one

by simply saying it. It can be warm and

heal one in numerous ways.

Salt water is a good cleanser too.

well its more of a neutralizer though

yes, thank you - I believe it works both ways - when I watched horrible things I was terrified but when I think about wonderful things I am serene ... somehow I feel whatever is inside manifests to surround one - so to speak - yes, it is all about the "energy" field which I believe we can have some control over

I occasionally can watch some horror movies now and they no longer terrify me. I actually think they are funny because they are so unreal. I will turn them off if it becomes too much for me - your mother most likely does that as well. I can walk through the darkness by myself and it is no longer frightening. I think it is as beautiful as the day. I am no longer afraid of what is not real - because I carry the light with me ...

Overall, I think I am very open to feeling things and when I do encounter a shift in the balance of the energy field, I am not afraid to take a stand.

If you have a dream about a dark figure this may at first appear sinister and it may very well be sinister but let’s not imagine the worst case scenario first. If you have a dream about a dark figure, try to think if you have met anyone new relatively recently. If you have and then you have this dream of a dark figure then it could be that you are seeing this because you want to get to know this new person but you are not sure how. This new person is probably fairly interesting and you want to know who they are, but they keep their true selves hidden because they are so enigmatic. You can only get to know them by talking to them more and though it may seem intimidating, this dream suggests that you would really like to get to know him so you might as well go for it. Meet the dark figure; talk with him, and then maybe things won’t be so scary, because a dream of a random dark figure means ominous things loom.

If you have a dream of a dark man your first thought might be to panic, after all this can be a pretty scary symbol. Nobody wants to see a dark man because they are scared of what he might represent, evil, death, destruction? This is actually a flaw in the way that humans think; we always assume that something new is going to be threatening if it has to do with darkness at all when this is not really the case. If you have a dream in which you see a dark man it is probably because you have met someone new in the waking world, or you are right about to. When you do meet this man again you want to get to know him better. The darkness in the dream is just a sign that you don’t know him all that well and that you might want to get to know him a little bit better. If this is the case, just put a little more effort in when trying to establish a conversation with him and he will probably open up to you.

Also, it might be your father, if you hear his voice. Get to know him better.

Sleep paralysis is extremely common, especially if get stressed often due to work or any other thing that stresses you out. It has nothing to do with horoscopes. It's a momentary phase where you feel as if you are being possessed, but you're actually not. Your body just goes through it sometimes.

As for the dark figure speaking, you may want to speak to a therapist about that. It might be either schizophrenia or hallucinations or paranoia. If you don't have anxiety at all... Perhaps there is a ghost in your place lol!
