Are we regressing as a society?

A guy I know was so excited last year because he was hired by the post office to be a mailman. It was good pay and those cushy federal benefits. I ran into him today and found out that he quit. He couldn't take it anymore.

They gave him a route in a sketchy neighborhood. He was jumped and badly beaten 3 separate times but that wasn't what caused him to quit. The final straw was when a guy put a gun to his head and threatened to kill him because he was late delivering his SSI check!

When did it become commonplace to beat up the mailman?

This sounds unreal. Were there criminal charges filed? Did the Post Office attempt to give him a new route? I find it hard to believe this happened on 3 different occasions, on the same route.
Police were involved everytime. I think the only charges were the gun guy. I did see a post on the police department FB page looking for suspects in one of the incidents.

I don't know if they offered him another route. We aren't that close.

But he was the new guy. I'm sure seniority determined the routes. Why would anyone else volunteer for it?

Oh ok, if you're telling the truth sorry about that. I've just never heard of any federal employees having as many issues as he has. I wouldn't of quit though. I would suppose the guys who are doing this live on the route that he carries mail to.

If I was gonna make up stories it would be about my sexy, rich, movie star lover, not the mailman lol

It's a sketchy neighborhood. There are issues there all the time. Even the elementary school has police officers as hall monitors. I just can't believe they would actually assault the mailman.

But if it's your job you can learn you route, learn your people, hell, try and relate to them!

I know that seems foreign. Like they shouldn't have to endure such treatment yet this part of me who wants to survive would understand.

Society is digressing because the highlight of our lives is being a fucking mailman when it used to be that a man picked up a sword and conquered entire kingdoms.

We are motivationally constipated. We dream of legendary things we can't hope to achieve by staying inside the box.

Break out humanity. Reach for the stars.

#fuckcomplacency

True, but I'd rather be the guy excited to be a mailman than the one threatening to kill someone over his SSI check.

It's not like it was the mailman's fault he didn't have their check. But heck. Relate to your people. Empathy people. The same people who pulled out a gun could be the same man who saves your life's in a different scenario.

Ya never know.

You couldn't pay me enough. If the people didn't drive me to quit the weather would have. It's fucking cold out there! And nobody shovels their sidewalk so it would be hours of climbing snobanks.

Sounds like a good workout to me.
