and nah satori, trust me. there is something unique about this site. in the past, it was pretty easy to figure out. like igot it within about 2-3 months. this one...hell, i don't know wtf is going on. it's frustrating and intriguing.

like, there are some people i like. and i will continue to come back to the site to "for" in a sense because they are enjoyable. they're e-friends...whatever that means.

but then there are others who...i dunno, again, i haven't figured it out yet. it's just uber-negative and not in a good way. "good" being sarcastic for me. some people can't stand sarcasm but this site goes beyond it at times. it's like one waterfall of PMS.

OH! and that's what i find intriguing.

normally, when there's this much venom on a site, members fall by the wayside and that's true of this site too. i'm sure this batch of users will be replaced by a new batch in 2-3 years. sure, some long standing members will remain but others will move on....for whatever reason.

what i find interesting though is HOW LONG many of you stay. it's not "normal." you may think it is, but it's not. i bet some of you will end up being members of this site longer than you were active members on myspace and that says more than you can imagine.

The number one thing that irks me about this site is the complaining about drama. Its like everyone wants to pretend the world is better off when people are holding hands singing that stupid song...How boring would that be?! I mean, there's a time and place for it, but I fucking love the drama. I'll be the first to admit it. Granted, I can bore of it easily, but its what keeps most coming back..whether they'd like to admit it or not.

I totally respect those that are genuinely not interested in it (and you can tell who those people are)...its the ones who pretend to be saints, yet ALWAYS manage to find a way to feed into the drama, all the while complaining about how much they can't stand it, that annoy me. Just keep it funky, for goodnesssake.

This place really does start to feel like a family in many ways...it sounds cheesy, but it does in a strange way.


There are many vets on here who have been here since 02 i believe. I have never posted on a chat site or whatever the hell these things are called, yet once I started here, I haven't really looked back. I think the same goes for many. Then a lot of people leave for a while and come back..sometimes months, sometimes years even, but mostly just weeks, as they can't hold out for much longer than that 😛


As I said though, I think the user friendliness is the main reason. I've seen some of the other sites and the way they are setup is such a turn off. This makes it so easy to communicate, and thus, want to actually come back to continue doing so.

NEVER changes? this is a violation of web-101 and yet, no one seems to care or notice. for me however, fascinating.

simplicity works in a lot of ways. look at myspace. seriously, go to myspace and look at it. design wise, it's ugly. it's violates every parameter of web design and yet, virtually everyone around the world with an internet connection has had a page at some point in time.

so yeah satori, not having moderation is helpful but i think it's bigger than that. you have sites where the moderators are lazy, there's no moderation and there is low activity. this one however, the owners don't have to do shit.

i'm not sure what it takes to get booted but apparently, it helps to have a bunch of members complaining and whining...only for the booted member to rejoin.

Tubby, I would love to delve into this much deeper with you, but I really hate trying to articulately express myself through this form of writing. Its so much easier for me to have an actual conversation about stuff I really enjoy talking about. I avoid many convos here that I find interesting for this reason...don't feel like typing it all out.

But yea, I'm definitely intrigued by all this. I love studying human nature, and this site is a great example of many the many facets of it.

but underneath all that is an ugliness that i would like to explore/understand and frustratingly, it's taking longer than i thought. but i'm a taurus, i shall see it through to the end and hopefully make some friends in the process. i already have 🙂

The person/people in charge rarely step in. They do a good job of letting us hash out our shit on our own. If he does step in, its usually pretty fair. I KNOW he has opinions, favorites, etc., but he's really objective when it comes to moderating.

What exactly do you mean tho? Are you talking about the seemingly deep seated issues between some of the members, or an ugliness in general? I'm a little confused as to what is so interesting to you about this, as I don't think this 'ugliness' is anything out of the norm.

rarely do sites need to be moderated because yeah, the drama works itself out. it's not as if anyone here is threatening to kill anyone else. although, some members need to be careful of how personal they get. it's one thing to talk shit generally, when you start using specifics, i think you walk a fine line. that's how that young girl in new england i believe ended up hanging herself. it wasn't that she was being bullied on the net. it was that the bullies knew PERSONAL details about her. the mother and daughter bully team kept throwing personal shit in that young girls face and she hung herself.

shy of that, being aware of things like that, the moderator need not step in. people getting their feelings hurt was never enough for me to intervene. i mean i had members wanting me to ban other members because the person was gay/lesbian. f' them haters.

so at the end of the day, i hate to have a good/bad list but ironically, a lot of the people some of you hate, i like.

I think DXP probably wants to talk to certain users for the same reason, but I doubt he ever would. He does a good job of keeping the interactions professional..atleast that I know of.

i stumbled upon a recent thread that shall remain nameless and in the process of reading it i was like OMG!, why?

it's had to know what's going on but i know that i have said some personal thing regarding my relationships, nothing that i'm ashamed of, and to have someone rub it in my face as if i should be ashamed....why?

Why does it have to remain nameless? Thats another thing I don't get...when people get all anonymous when it comes to discussing stuff like this. Unless you're protecting a persons privacy, I don't get why people don't like mentioning names, threads, etc. on here. i dont think you have to worry. unless this is his primary source of income...which i'd be surprised if it is, webmasters don't have the time and energy to be consumed by members. it may start off that way but once a site grows, you keep your tried and true close and the rest are just "ants marching." interesting to watch but don't get too deeply invested because you have to remain objective.

and what got me about it is simply, if i PM someone, i am going out on a limb there. there are folks here and on other sites that are cool as shit, but in terms of giving out my email/messenger, not everyone gets that. i think it's like walking up to a stranger and introducing yourself.

now if you get to a point where you have a rapport and are friendly, for someone to violate that trust is the most underhanded, vile thing a person can do. on the internet or not...wtf does that?

I was just pissed that the messages could have easily been taken out of context, but other than that, it is what it is. Most of what I say in PMs, I've said on the boards.. I have no problem posting every PM I've ever exchanged here for all to see, except I wouldn't do it to protect the other persons privacy.

Although I would never do what Ian did, no matter the circumstance simply because it's just not my style , its not that big a deal to me.
