Posted by TheTinManWell he had to be hospitalized ladt week because he was in a dka. This id all very new to both of us. He is currently on a 1:15 ratio and is just trying to get his footing on it. He had no idea until he was hospirralized. So far he is really only dealing with that. He caught it right before there was any permanent damage to his kidney lungs or heart.
@nikkistar what other symptoms you notice with him? Besides his vision and weight loss.

Posted by CaramelizedCoffeeSo they have given him instructions to use the long lasting first thing in the morning, and he has to give himself additional shots before each meal, and again before bed. For whatever reason, they won't immediately give him a pump.
Ok you fuckers really need to stop giving advice
This is NOT DIABETES 2 BUT DIABETES 1
A WHOLE DIFFERENT BEAST
Nikkistar is he around 30? How did get Diabetes1 so late in his life? I would double check that with a different doctor. Make sure it diabetes 1
Also he needs to see an eye doctor obviously very fast
He will gain weight once he gets his diabetes in control and takes insulin.
The problem with diabetes 1 is the insulin intake. Not only does it make you gain weight. But it can kill you of you take too much and it makes your blood sugar go low you can go in a coma
If he can afford it I would suggest an insulin pump asap. It helps get the right amount.
Also long lasting insulin and if he's healthy smaller amounts of insulin
The trick with diabetes one is trying to stay in normal range of blood control
You don't want to be above 120-140
Or below 70
You can die if you're too low
If he's low. Non responsive. Sweating
Give him orange juice or some liquid sugar that works very fast
Test him in 20 min
No improvement call the police
The doctors love to give lots of units of insulin but that shit eats your organs
You need to eat a healthy diet so you can use as minimum as possible on a daily basis
You can't eat cakes all day and shoot up insulin all day
You're going to get fuked

Posted by TheTinManI will have to ask him. I am so new to this that it feels like information overload.Posted by nikkistarLike how high? From the sound of it it sound to me like it's well above 120-140. And what's his A1-C percentage? That A1-C what makes a huge difference in patients with diabetes. The higher the A1-C is the greater chance of risking complications.Posted by CaramelizedCoffeeSo they have given him instructions to use the long lasting first thing in the morning, and he has to give himself additional shots before each meal, and again before bed. He is already healthy since he was works out so heavily and eats the proper diet as is. He is 26, and the doctors believe he had it for awhile but are unsure why it popped up now. He is 26. His sugar levels were dangerously high and he was hospitalized last week and diagnosed then. He was ina full dka and his blood was acidic by the time he finally went to the doctor. He didnt think anything was wrong.

One of the issues right now, currently, is his eyesight. He is having blurry spells of time, that don't seem to be lessening. He was told it would be temporary, but I am wondering how long someone who has had this took for it to self correct.
And additionally, is there anything that he can eat that will help him regain weight? He dropped 38 lbs, and will likely drop an additional 10 to 15 before everything is said and done. This will leave him at 6'4" and roughly 205. For a guy who has classically worked out his entire life, and always maintained muscle mass, he is very lean. (Though If I am going to be honest, his abs make me drool lol) But I want to know if anyone has any suggestions, since this is all new to us, how to help him gain the weight he lost before we found out how sick he really was.
Any other advice on it, would be appreciated to. As his partner, I want to make sure I am just as educated in his illness as he is.
