I tan really well! But what's funny is that everywhere I go, people think I'm something else. I always get asked if I'm Puerto Rican (all over; especially when I'm in PR, they speak Spanish to me and they think I can respond; although, I do understand). Same thing for Mexico, when I'm there, which I will be later this year, I ALWAYS get mistaken for being Mexican or Spanish. When I'm in Europe, people as if I'm Italian (from Sicily or Rome), I've even gotten asked if I'm Egyptian! It's crazy! Especially depending on how I do my hair.

Honey, we are beautiful in all our colors! Jennifer Hudson is divine! I'm glad she's happy with her weight loss. I thought she was beautiful before too, but it's what will make HER happy that matters!

she looks A M A Z I N G

Ok, I'm sorry. I'm really happy for her and all... but I just think that it looks like she has a big head now. Also, I'm sick of seeing her commercials on TV ALL THE TIME.

Ok, something interesting about me...I traveled to Italy (Venice, Florence, Rome) for 8 days all by my lonesome and had the most wonderful time ever.

really! omg. ive been wanting to take a trip by myself...can i ask how old u were when u did it?

I'm here DMV...finally...shit! I had to take a nap/eat after hang'n out in the other thread. How very interesting! Not to mention, Irene has been howling like crazy...thought a damn wolf was in my linen closet. Sheesh!

Back to the topic at hand...I went to Italy when I was 23. I booked my trip with a travel company (and I was with a travel group and had a tour escort the entire time), and off I went. What an adventure! Lost my luggage for a whole day and everything, but I didn't give a damn 'cause I wasn't about to let losing all my clothes, and clean underwear stop me from having fun. LOL.

It was a treat, and I swear I ate more Gelato than I did food. Had that shit like twice a day for breakfast, lunch and dinner...sooooo good. *licks lips*

Met some really nice people in my group and there were these three older Black women who sort of took me under their wing. Very nice experience. Would def. do it again.

(Continued)

This is a good topic because I often see women do a weave along with their natural hair - as in some parts is theirs and some parts is the weave, so my question is: is it all sewn in? Do they still use glue nowadays? LOL, don't think I'm crazy. I'm just not in the mix the way I used to be! After all my years of dyeing, rinsing, cutting, braiding, etc., I't's been simply nothing but relaxers & Wash & Sets. I'm boring!

Ooooohhhh, I've always wanted to try a lacefront wig. They look amazing and you can barely tell that it's not yours. I've seen some of the ones Beyonce wears and they're kinda tight, lol.

That's so wonderful that you have that man. Lord have mercy I love me some Black men....

lol. your too cute. i get a full sew in or a partial that leaves hair out. now keep in mind beyonce's lace fronts cost about 1000, the one u find in the china man's shop is like 100.

some ladies still do the glue.

Yeah I would sew it too. Can't believe some ladies still use the glue. Maybe it's a better brand than that cheap one we used to get from the china man shop.

My friend does the same as you. She leaves her bang out and some parts in the mid section.

I really need to research these lacefronts. Some of them are so damn cute.

Did you walk around Venice or just gondola rides ?
It's pretty kewl imo.

Actually, I didn't get the opportunity to do the Gondola. 😢

My flight was delayed and I ended up missing my whole first entire day in Venice (feking Alitalia Airlines) so when I finally arrived at my hotel the afternoon of the second day, my group had already completed most of the tours/the sites - Gondola, The Bridge of Sighs, "Doge's Palace", Basilica of St. Marco, etc. I was quite bummed but didn't let it stop me from doing some sight-seeing of my own so I took to foot, walked my ass all over, shopped, got on the Waterbus, made my way to St. Mark's square (one of the "dirtiest" places in the world), I even purchased a "Louis Vuitton" bag from two African men selling goods on one of the bridges. Now that I look back, I should have done the Gondola but I was too excited to walk around and "discover", and just said forget it. I do plan to go back so I will def. take the ride then.

There's something I have to address to some of the women in here who have worn weaves and what not or who are considering going nautral. Well, it's more like a question only because it's had more of an impact on me than I guess I'd really like.

I went natural a long time ago, and by that I mean about 6 years ago before going natural became more accepted and almost trendy. I did it because my hair started to fall out from over processing, chemical burns from relaxers, and what not. I was like a sophomore or junior in high school, and I went to a predominantly black high school. When I stopped straightening, using chemicals, ect I noticed an immediate stigma. I got teased and ridiculed a lot because I didn't style my hair anymore like the girls in my school. Even my own mother would get on me about it even though I tried to make her understand why I chose to stop putting chemicals in my hair. Needless to say, it made me extremely self-concious, and since I already had high levels of anxiety, my hair made me really sad. So over the years, I've watched how natural hair has suddenly become something that nearly every black woman is striving for. And I hate to say, I have a little animosity. I love my hair curly, but I hate that even now, I still feel self-conscious because I was getting shitted on for a couple of years because I chose to stop straightening my hair. It almost makes me feel like, "Why do you get to enjoy your hair when you wouldn't let me enjoy mine?"
Most of the ridicule I got was from other black women.

So I suppose I want to ask have any of you dealt with this before. And I suppose the statement I want to make is that if you ever do decide to go natural, don't be ashamed and don't half-ass it. Your hair will love you for it.

I totally understand where you are coming from, Candeh. I've always wanted to go natural but, having processed hair for so long, I didn't know if I would be up for the change (psychologically, emotionally). What you say reminds me of a part in the Chris Rock film "Good Hair" when Al Sharpton says "how do you make me feel bad about the very hair that grows out of my head" (paraphrasing).

@candeh,

i actually get more shyt from some black men for wearing a weave. both my sisters have dreadlocks. if i want straight hair, i will put a straight weave in. when i want curly and kinky, i go with my natural hair.

i do see alot my girls going to natural route and getting flack from black women. its ridiculous. we were blessed with versatile hair...

im going to do a mohawk foy my bday...ala ANTM Marvene...

I remember Marvene. Beautiful girl, and that mohawk rocked. I say do it.

@candeh,

im going to do a mohawk foy my bday...ala ANTM Marvene...

I did that before (several years ago), and it was cool and the breeze! Not a look that I would want for everyday, but for a hot minute it's all good!
One year, I wanted to go to a Halloween party as Nobe (Jada Pinkett's role in the "Matrix") but I chickened out in wearing the liquid, skin tight pants! I had my little nobbies all "ret to go!" LOL! Maybe I'll do it, if I work out enough this year! DO THE MOHAWK!!!!
I'm fortunate, because my hair grows really fast, so I chop that shiznit off all the time! One of my cousins and close girlfriends are hairstylist, so I've had ALL kind of crazy style s; especially when they wanted me to be in hair shows for them. They knew I wouldn't be pissed off when they hacked off my hair. My thing was, I'll look a little crazy (if it's a bad cut) for about 3-4 weeks, then it would be grown in enough to do sumthin' else. I'm not all over hair...don't get me wrong, I don't want to be bald, but I'm fortunate in that I don't have to worry about it!

It was cool DMV, but I'm older now, so I don't really do it anymore. Plus, my cousin doesn't do hair anymore, and I moved from that state where my hairstylist friend lives, so right now, I gotta do my own hair which is a giant PITA! But, I had fun doing the hair shows and stuff when I was in college and stuff. Oy, I could tell you about this one time I died my own hair (first AND last time)...I looked like Sisqo from Dru Hill when his hair was blond (it was so scary, and the story is too long to tell). Anywhoo, at that time, my hair was probably about bra strap length...I had to get it all chopped off since I f@cked up my hair! LMAO! Nevah' did I make THAT mistake again. I'll do my own Sebastian rinses (aka cellophanes), but NO PERMANENT COLOR unless it's professionally done!

I can't take it! You are funny as hell. LMAO @ looking like Sisqo from DH. Man, I think we've all had one of those bad hair phases...

Question: I've often heard about cellophanes but never tried one. I'm looking for a rinse (preferably with no ammonia, peroxide) but that's still strong enough to show color without having to do it 10 times. My hair is dark brown right now, but I want to do a honey blonde.

I have tried:

Jazzing
Adore (which has no ammonia, peroxide or alcohol, but not potent enough)

Any ideas guys? I will NEVA use a dye EVA again. The last time I did, it ate all of my hair from my temples and my nape!

Paul Sebastians it's a colored rinse/cellophane, that is not permanent, so you can't mess up your hair. It lasts for about 4-6 weeks. It's one of the best on the market, but it's not inexpensive, but WELL worth the price. When I am going the inexpensive route, I'll use the Jazzing too, it's not too bad for a rinse/cellophane.

Oh I see. Sounds like Sebastian might be a good one.

🙂 LOL! Caught a typo I did, it should have been "dyed" my hair, not "died" ---although, that was appropriate too, since my hair definitely WAS dead! HA!

^^ It's hard to tell these days.

In a way, I see the bleaching of the skin almost like the hair issue, albeit a little more extreme. In fact, skin bleaching has gotten more spotlight because it has become a huge problem in places like India where darker skinned Indian women are almost encouraged to bleach because of adverts featuring lighter skinned Indian women being more accepted by men and society.

Since I'm a psych major, I like to study behavior in society (that's more of my focus) and you can see how skin color is still a sort of stigma in society these days. If any of you have been on sites like mediatakeout.com or bossip.com, skin color has become less of a Caucasian/African American issue... it's become an issue among black people. Like, you see things such as Light Skinned vs Dark Skinned among the black community. It's becoming that black people are ridiculing each other because of their hair or their skin color.

how do you guys feel about black women bleaching their skin?

They should be shot.

That's a little extreme... no?

Uh no it's not. If AA women bleach their skin it means they desire to be white which they will never be. So yes THEY SHOULD BE SHOT or maybe they should just jump off of a bridge. Comprende?

Okay, so maybe you aren't joking? But saying that someone should be shot or commit suicide because of a personal complex that is probably a result of some societal pressure is extreme. That person needs therapy... not a death sentence.

Not really VV you know why because it's pathetic & extremely sad & it pisses me off that they would do some stupid shit as that. It means they loathe their beautiful brown skin & theirselves. SMDH.
But yeah, I was being a smart ass! You know me...😛

Still makes no sense. Shouldn't they be shot if they don't bleach their skin??

I don't think he meant it as a literal connection to Hitler. I think it's the idea that someone is executing people because they are in someway not perfect, in which case a black person who is bleaching her skin is considered vile and imperfect, and so is shot.

Or, I guess that's how I interpreted it.

It certainly is. And I respect your opinion that they need faith rather than therapy. I mean, I still can't tell if you were being a smartass even though you said so, but I still can't get on the idea of shooting someone because of that. That just made me super uncomfortable even if it was a joke.

Well for the time it was a good idea but not now. Not with all of the new-age hair technology. I couldn't imagine putting a hot comb through my daughter's hair. Just a bit much for my taste, but our mommas didn't have all the options we have now.
