Seriously, this could go either way. As usual, the state run media in this country goes apeshit over something that should have been dealt with on a state level. If not for Obama's own POS AG, Eric Holder, this wouldn't have been such a media circus.

And please stop pretending that Michael Brown was such an innocent youth who was an Eagle Scout. He had just strong armed a store clerk at a convenient store and robbed the damn place for crying out loud. Not saying he deserves to die because he robbed the store; but for crying out loud, he isn't the big teddy bear some try to make him out to be.

Furthermore, it's not up to you or me to decide the fate of the officer. it's up to the facts of the case.

If the officer is guilty, prosecute him to the fullest of the law. If the evidence proves otherwise, then don't.

I wonder if you held the same standard to OJ Simpson during his trial as you have this officer? I'm guessing that would be a big NOT!!

FTR, there are good cops, there are bad cops. Just as there are good people (doesn't matter race, religion or gender) and there are bad people.

I wonder how concerned and pissed off you get when an innocent police officer is gunned down by a drug addict/gang member/criminal in many cities throughout this nation? I won't hold my breath while you answer.

Under Missouri law, a police officer is allowed to discharge his firearm (also meaning, use of deadly force, among other reasons) under certain conditions - among which is threat of bodily harm to the police officer.

Looks like that's exactly what happened. Some of the known evidence (mentioned in the other thread) supports this scenario easily.

Additionally, not quite related but worth mentioning re: the attacker's state of mind at the time, he had just finished robbing a convenience store and physically assaulting the shopkeep. This is a fact.

It isn't at all beyond the realm of likelihood that Wilson was perfectly justified in using deadly force.

All the rioting (assuming there *will* be rioting) would be a complete waste, not to mention completely unjustified.

Missouri law explicitly addresses the fluid nature of an attack, and the snap decisions that must be made by law enforcement under attack. This is also outlined clearly in the other thread. Missouri law allows for certain leeway under such circumstances, in that the officer is allowed to act for his/her own safety *as they see fit* in the heat of the moment, when things are changing in split-seconds.

That's Missouri law. I'm talking Moral law. The best thing to do would've been incapacitating him. In the case of a gun or knife I can see lethal being necessary. But he didn't have either of those on him did he? Hell he could've just used his damn nightstick and neutralized him. But of course they'll act on the personal decision of the officer, they should've had better standards than that for unarmed combatants than someone with a knife or gun, and when they're down, don't shoot them it'll be the best time to make an arrest.

I didn't follow all the details of this case, but is there a reason the cop couldn't have just used his taser if Michael made him feel threatened?

Killing him just seemed completely unnecessary, especially since he was unarmed.

All I see is the law, what we know about Brown's state of mind, and probability. I didn't sit on the jury, so there is a mountain of evidence I'm not able to consider.

What happened is a tragedy. But sadness and tragedy aren't things on which a jury can rule.

From nine miles up, given what we know, the verdict is easily supported. So even if I WANTED to get pissed on behalf of Brown, I really can't.

The particular law in question is meant to protect police officers who are under attack, and who have determined that their lives are in danger to the degree that they must use deadly force in order to protect themselves. This sort of law is neither new or unusual. And in certain cases, it makes perfect sense.

The law is applied (as in, TESTED) when a police officer uses deadly force. A formal process takes place in order to determine whether the situation mentioned above warrants the application of the law in terms of the "freedom of action" it gives to law enforcement who might find themselves in a life-and-death scenario.

It difficult as fuck for me to see a life or death scenario when someone is unarmed. This sets a precedent against unarmed people being killed. No knife, no boogity boo scary hoody, no gun.
