whoever the real mafia is is doing a good job remaining undetected and turning townies against each other.

Think about it, I got offed after I voted for shell. Because I knew scruff wasn't mafia, and didn't want to be forced to vote for Damous. I was the only one that left my vote for shell. But, I wasn't the first one to suspect him, Dazed was but Dazed changed his vote back... and I suspect that he the mafia's next target just because they know he brought shell name up.
