Cross Country Trip: Flight vs Drive?

At first I was thinking it would be safer to drive then fly. But then I started to think about...

gas stations

gas stations bathrooms

and hotels

What do you think?

Hotels have minimum maid service and has cut out most amenities like breakfast and those things. They are vacant but clean because they have to sanitize after each visit. But some floors may be shut down since they are so low occupancy, so bring your own wipes to wipe down lights, door handles, remotes and anything else in contact on a daily basis while staying in a room.

Where you going btw?

I already had a trip planned to go home to California for 10 days, but since I'm working from home it makes sense to just work there and extend the trip.

Cost wise its about the same, Hotel + Gas vs Renting a Car when I get there.

Its just if I drive it would be 3, 8 hour days of driving each way.
