How old is he? You can attempt an intervention but it will boil down to him WANTING to stop. It's hard to watch someone close hurting themselves but they sometimes have to lose everything in order to change.
There's a difference between using drugs and abusing drugs.
Is he using and you are calling it abusing ... because you said started recently, which would suggest that he has just started using drugs.
Certainly, if he has just started using, or abusing as you say ... then his people will take notice.
