Your friend is describing a policy closer to a Libertarian policy.

I would gather that a lot of Republicans actually leam much more libertarian than is believed, if you don't listen to media spin.

Everyone I know who is a staunch patriot has "R" as their registration but would vote "L" of someone who could win would run.

But they would still be for strict border control, and probably more conservative socially (in belief, not necessarily policy).
The Republicans have had plenty of opportunities to nominate a Libertarian leaning candidate. However they made a pact with devil (ironically... Evangelicals) for votes and without those votes they don't stand a chance in a country with a rapidly changing electoral demographics.

The people I know *are* Evangelicals. I'm not. From their perspective, they honestly don't care what people do with their bodies, or with God. They just would rather not be forced to agree with it (by government fiat).

Meh.

That argument falls flat when they continuously fight to strip women of their rights.

Rights? Are you talking abortion? Yeah, I'm pro-life. If a woman wants to kill her baby, it's not a "right", but she can make that choice. Just don't make me pay for it, or pay for the doctor who performs it, or the agency that provides it. IME, abortion hurts the woman as well.

I"m totally pro-choice ...how would you have to pay for it?and I mean currently for the MAJOR insurance company that I work for a LOT of employers pay for abortions and gender reassignment surgeries .. why don't you believe that it should be covered thru insurance or you don't believe that taxes should be used to cover it? ...our federal taxes dollars are used for ALL kinds of crazy things like spending money to find out why monkeys fling poo...why not put that money toward safe medical procedures ...—
Is there an equivalence betwen a woman killing her baby and monkeys flinging poo? If yes and you agree with both doing good then sure, pay for it. I don't.

Birth control is readily available and cheaper tham abortion. If a woman can't afford BC and is in a life position that she can't afford an abortion and finds herself pregnant, then there are other options. Pregnant single women aren't a stigma, so I don't see why abortion has to be the only way. If she can afford one (insurance, self-pay, whatever), then fine, go ahead

Don't ask (or force) someone who has a philosophical or moral objection to it help foot the bill.

I don't believe that abortion is the only way thats why its called pro choice ...but every one should have ALL of their choices ..no matter what they are ...and if your ok with paying for birth control or adoption ...or abortion should be on the table ...imo

and another question I get that its a religious objection but how do you regulate that ...— to make sure BOTH set of people get there rights

Sorry, killing isn't on an equal level to life. If you think it is, then I do feel sorry that you do. A lot of women find that out after the fact. If it's going to be her choice, let it be HER choice. It isn't illegal, we agree. I have no issue with the law, but IMO the choice isn't a moral one. So, I see no reason to help fund it. Not quite sure why that position is so hard to understand.

The rights we have are given to us by what? A written law? Or God? Or natural law? I believe it's either#1 or #2. Both support the right to live. Choices are choices, not rights.

Don't you believe that god gives us free will...who are you, me or any congressman to take that away

that isn't their right to take away any ones choices with your body...does the government take away you choice to cit your hair, or wear wool,...

god doesn't even take away our choices..I know that you and I will probably never agree on this ...but I don't believe that a collection of cells can ask nor answer any questions—
There is no taking of choices in my position, only WHO is paying for it, as a matter of public policy. No one is prohibited from offering the money to those who can't afford it. No one is saying she shouldn't have the choice, only that it's a wong choice in most cases. If you're all in, then why not start a go fund me site or oranization for like minded individuals to contribute? Why do you require people who have an objection (ANY objection) to help pay?

Perhaps I am misunderstanding you...how do you have to pay?

This is not about Hillary. It's about Trump. "But Hillary!" isn't justification for Trump being a piece of shit human being and neither is ”But the media!".

Hillary might be just as big a piece of shit, but that's not a defense. It's the equivalent of school children saying ”but she did it first!"

The majority (not all) of Republicans (especially those I know which is a lot, surprisingly).. Do not even realize there are other candidates running besides Trump and Clinton. All the while, myself, and many other registered Dems are struggling with who to vote for between Hillary and 3rd parties.

It's frustrating to me because I enjoy discussing policy and the majority of my conversations with Republicans come down to character issues with Trump and Hillary.

I usually vote third party. I'm just afraid that this time around it'll bite me in the ass.

Aw I'm not throwing shade, just proving we aren't different. A hobby is ahobby no matter how you look at it. As long as it makes people feel happy.

It's ok to be a raging bitch imo though, as long as you're honest about it. I can respect your honesty.

Lastly, nope. Not creepy at all. Just ask permission first, duh. I'm sure it will go smooth if you're just direct and honest about it.

If you look at US policy since probably HW Bush, there's been little or no difference between presidents besides the occasional random social program. There's no difference between the two parties any longer.

I truly believe the Affordable Health Care Act is a huge motivator in voting for Trump. It's a program that should have been flushed. The outrage over it alone are enough to push some to more "conservative" ways...

Overall I see a lot of similarities too!

Biased media, lies, scandals, personal profit, public agenda, feeding of parasitic lobbyists. Total optimist can you tell? I have no faith in either.

I haven't read anything past this.

I don't have the stamina to read through all these pages.

Federal law already prohibits federal funds from being used to fund abortions, so that argument falls flat as well. Evangelical attempts to overturn Rowe Vs Wade or limit access to contraception or force abstinence only sex education is simply a push to enforce their religious views on others through the government.

Ah.. Of the many Evangelicals I know, none actually support the bills you speak of. I don't dispute they exist.

PP is the largest provider of abortions (among other things , I know), and receives federal funds.

Again... Federal law prohibits federal funds to be used for abortions. PP abortion services operate under a completely separate budget than the rest of their operations and rely on patient payments and donations from private corporations.

Even The Grand Imam of the Christian Republic of Indiana Mike Pence came up empty when he investigated PP for using federal funding for abortions in my state. The assumption that PP is running a shell game and shifting funds around has been proven false time and time again.

Not in California.

But really, as you mentioned today, this isn't a pivotal issue for me. The principle is the same whatever the topic, as far as I'm concerned.

Do whatever you want with your life, and I'll do with mine. Just don't come to me picking my pockets for a bailout when you fuck up.

circus... so I'm sure it does.
The media isn't responsible for him being a sexual predator.

So?

They aren't responsible for hillary being a greedy, murdering corporate whore, either.

But neither has a thing to do with Librasaurusrex's post.

couldn't trump be consider greedy by asking his father to continually bail him out....and as far as murdering ...I doubt hillary has ever murder anyone -_-... and as far as greedy so is everyone? ...does anyone complain when NASCAR driver plaster their car and jumpsuits with corporate logans nah ....

You can be held accountable for murder by withholding information that lead to the death of military members when it was on your watch. Cough cough Benghazi cough.

But who really knows the truth? Just playing devil's advocate : )

Plus, You like Hilary Clinton and use NASCAR references? Never thought I'd see the day lol

lol I do like hillary clinton ...I don't deny it? I have always liked her 🙂 tell me more about benghazi ....I don't know anything about this?

@cancan26 why do you like her? I forget her policies.
okay so here is a website that is netural about the candidates (which was really hard to find lol)

http://presidential-candidates.insidegov.com/compare/40-70/Hillary-Clinton-vs-Donald-Trump

I agree with her on the individual rights which are the MOST important to me ...

so you said that you work for an insurance company? me too! soooo you really don't believe there was ANY benefits to the aca? not even one ...

we had a meeting today about how we will be limiting our exposure in the market place b/c we aren't getting the subsidies that the government promised us ...the reason we aren't getting those subsidies is cause the senate (majority republican) at the time sued obama and said that he didn't have the authority to say that the government would help pay subsidies (even though) he filed the motion and it was approved by the senate -_-

why do you like trump ...or better yet pick an issue of the website and lets talk about it 🙂

This is why these type of topics were always better kept secret from other people. Older generations didn't discuss these topics with random ass people. The system failed when people started debating their own stupid opinions when really no opinion is actually correct anymore. That's the fault of the media and the internet. It gives too much information. So much to grasp even one thing is like a fragment from whole picture. It tries to completely masks the fact its all fucked. You can only patch and tape something for so long till its all broken and on the floor.
nah ..I like talking to republicans ...I actually agree with some of the values of the party ...if people aren't hateful about it ..you can learn a lot from each other ...me and my cappie friend have learned a lot about each other 😄 its also things that I personally have never considered before point of view and vice versus
@soul I just talked about that today. It was kept private because of the possibility that reason and logic would be replaced with emotionally fueled hatred. It can easily become a shit show.

I don't consider myself anything.. if anything a libertarian or independent but still.. eh.

If I tried to talk to my mother about politics I can bet money that it will end with her raising her voice and throwing in a slanderous comment about my intelligence. She loses it. Sad. Hate it really.

Can't hurt to listen to others though?

I really enjoy talking to my cappie friend about politics she focuses on the issues! we can crack jokes about each others candidates ...bitch about wasteful spending ...we even have running joke that we are like political parents cancer (mother) and capricorn (father)

cancer-wants to make sure that their are social programs in place to help the poor, the disadvantage, and kids and in true cancer form I am very protective of make sure everyone has the same RIGHTS ...

capricorn-wants to cut wasteful spending, and invested in america FIRST and also in true capricorn form she wants stricter guidelines for social programs so people can learn to care for themselves

okay ...so here the deal...I was talking to my capricorn friend ...and even though she supported trump in the beginning she is fearful that trump will destroy their whole party ...specifically with the last scandal of the tweets of well respected republican Paul Ryan and John McCain ...

In a couple of Tuesday morning tweets, Donald Trump attacked Paul Ryan and the Republicans who have abandoned him. In one he tacitly acknowledged his slip in polls, saying that “it is hard to do well when Paul Ryan and others give zero support.” The other referred to “ineffective and weak leader Ryan,” who “had a bad conference call where his members went wild at his disloyalty.”

Despite winning the second debate in a landslide (every poll), it is hard to do well when Paul Ryan and others give zero support!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 11, 2016

Our very weak and ineffective leader, Paul Ryan, had a bad conference call where his members went wild at his disloyalty.

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 11, 2016

The very foul mouthed Sen. John McCain begged for my support during his primary (I gave, he won), then dropped me over locker room remarks!

-Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 11, 2016

do you guys feel as though donald trump is well with in his rights to air the party dirty laundry on twitter, if the party isn't loyal?
Yup.

Wouldn't you?

I don't know ....to be honest ..I mean where is the loyalty of your own people— the remarks ...are wwwwaaaayyy out there ...the rumors are that no one can "correct" him on ANYTHING with out him going berserk

No, there's some good evidence that a consultant to Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney (Dan Senor, I think his name is) is the one who leakedd the Access Hollywood video. It isn't that it was leaked that pissed him off, I'm sure it's *who* leaked it.

Republican establishment types are as crooked as the rest, and they don't want Trump. Believe me, it's not because they're outraged at his behavior. He's never been "one of them". The Republican party has been abysmal as far as being effective for the last 8 years and where most conservatives are concerned, the party is already dead.

so can I ask you question ...what do you think could revive the republican party?

There isn't really an R or a D anymore. Some are calling it the Uniparty. Public talk of difference, but none on actual policymaking. There are rumblings of the Republicans going the way of the Whig party (has been for decades, but this may be the tipping point).

At this point in our history, I think it's going to basically end up being the statists/globalists (regardless of party affiliation) vs the independents/nationalists (not as in "socialist nationalism", but those who are wanting to retain national sovereignty and to preserve the Constitution's original intent).

personally I feel like the republican party has a IMAGE problem ...there is an undercurrent (unspoken) that the party is a party for white, middle class/and or rich, straight, christian, educated individuals

truthfully the republican party needs to focus on the VALUES and also make an deep effort to include people of color, gay people, the poor ...these groups of people can relate to the VALUES just like anyone else ...

the democratic party makes sure that everyone feels accepted in the party ...

That's the perception for reasons I won't get into here. Like I said in that other thread, happy to have a private discussion without having to be on defense 4 or 5 to 1.

...oh ..I hope that I didn't offend you ...and I thought despite us having vastly different views that we were doing pretty good holding a convo? don't you think? ...when you say perception reasons what do you mean?

No offense, at all. I just know from a long time online how these things usually deteriorate. 🙂

There's a LOT of conditioning that creates a perception, and it starts really early. I grew up in a conservative family, and went to public schools. This was in the '70s and '80s, and we got the earliest versions of anti-conservative values taught to us either directly or indirectly starting in grade school.

I know that it has gotten progressively moreso since I left.

Unless you have other influences questioning what you're being told, it's very easy to have perceptions permanently formed.

Let me ask you, why do YOU think there's a perception that Republicans are mostly old rich, white men? Were you aware that for much of American history, blacks were overwhelmingly republican?

Yes it was overwhelmingly black, before the parties switched platforms. Why do people always leave this historical fact out. The Republican party of today, is the democratic party of before 1960.

Because it's not a fact.

Sure, you can name one or two people who switched parties over the years, but there's nothing in the historical record to suggest the assertion is a "fact".

"As a result of unrelenting efforts by Democrats to shift their racist past onto the backs of Republicans, using the mantra: "the parties switched sides", a lot of people have requested an article addressing this issue.

It does not make sense to believe that racist Democrats suddenly rushed into the Republican Party, especially after Republicans spent nearly 150 years fighting for black civil rights.  In fact, the racist Democrats declared they would rather vote for a "yellow dog" than a Republican because the Republican Party was known as the party for blacks."

So your not gonna tell us your success rate at asking women if you can photograph dat ass while at the beach? Give me a number? How many times out of 10 for example.

Curious minds want to know.

@Soul
I'd say if I honestly tried, none. Only because who the fuck goes around asking people if they can have an ass shot? Maybe as a joke with a camera recording for cringe/shock value. I'm actually surprised you're still going on about this. I mean fuck this isn't the 90's. If I wanted to creep on women and their ass shots I'd hit up dating sites and Facebook where that stuff is effortless to find and free. You just want to make me look like a loser, which is totally fine. Your opinion on me or what I like matters little to me. In reality though the men who are honest about their sexual attraction will find more sex in their life. Lots of women like a honest man that isn't afraid to take risky moves for what he wants.

What about cooperate bailouts?

I mean what I say. 😉 The markets being propped up by government is the absolute antithesis of a free market and all it does is delay the inevitable, which means a BIGGER fail that hurts more people when (not if) it goes.

Let em fail, and 10 more companies will fill the gap, and that's how growth happens.

Ok!! Lol I like games.

I don't work for an insurance company, @getmisted does. I work in healthcare at a small private office.

President Obama did have an appetite for talking up the ACA and a lot of his claims fell threw. "If you like your insurance you can keep it."

And I don't like Trump or Hillary btw. Lol.

But what I do like about Trump is his so called aspirations about building businesses and big corporations HERE in the USA by lowering corporate taxes. Ford is leaving, didn't Nabisco (the Oreo peeps) relocate to Mexico? Point is, small businesses are the heart of servitude in communities.

I'll check the site out now.

Trumps so called aspirations to bring businesses back to the US goes against everything he's learned as a businessman.

@sultrykitty the non-republican websites say otherwise. Hell, my high school history teacher said other wise, and that was 20 years ago, when the internet wss just an infant.

http://factmyth.com/factoids/democrats-and-republicans-switched-platforms/

The American political parties, now called Democrats and Republicans, switched platforms, ideologies, and members many times in American history. These switches were typically spurred on by major legislative changes and events, such as the Civil War in the 1860’s, and Civil Rights in the 1960's.

http://us-presidents.insidegov.com/stories/3613/republicans-democrats-switch-platform

So when did the switch happen, and why?

According to Dr. Eric Rauchway , an American History professor at UC Davis, the switch happened somewhere between 1872 and 1936.
Then explain why the democrat members in Congress blocked the passage of the Civil Rights Act in 1964? A Republican introduced it, 87% of Republicans voted to pass it.

One of the largest shifts in voting patterns occurred in 1964, during what many scholars call the Southern realignment–when white Southern voters, likely motivated by race, abandoned the Democrats to vote for Republican Barry Goldwater. Other scholars say that it wasn’t race, but an up-and-coming generation of Southern voters joining the Republican party who shifted the tides.

From the linked article:

"Democrats condemn Republican President Richard Nixon for his so-called "Southern Strategy."  These same Democrats expressed no concern when the racially segregated South voted solidly for Democrats for over 100 years, while deriding Republicans because of the thirty-year odyssey of the South switching to the Republican Party.

The "Southern Strategy" that began in the 1970's was an effort by Nixon to get fair-minded people in the South to stop voting for Democrats who did not share their values and were discriminating against blacks.  Georgia did not switch until 2004, and Louisiana was controlled by Democrats until the election of Republican Bobby Jindal, a person of color, as governor in 2007."

I'm not calling the Republican party racist, both parties are guilty of that. My point is blacks left the Republican party because the ideology and platform switched. So when people say...republican was the party of blacks, I'm like yeah when we agreed with their ideology.

Once they started acting like dixiecrats we left. And when we joined the democratic party, the dixiecrats went to the republican party. That's what caused the shift.

And the part you quoted still doesn't change the fact that the parties switched platforms. Republican party used to be progressive, and the Democratic party conservative. Now it's vice versa.

The first question is really more relevant to your point (rather, the professor's point). I'm not surprised that you aren't answering.

"Progressive" and "Conservative" have little meaning in the conversation because their modern connotations imply particular values, and what they "mean" is completely dependent on the speaker's perspectives.

Phone is dying and I'm not near a charger. Might jump back in later.
