My question to you is- do YOU want him back? and if so, why? It really sounds to me like he is playing you. Of course, I do not know the whole story - only what you have written. When a man says to you that he does not trust you and he has NO reason to be saying that (meaning that you have not done anything for him to feel this way), there is a possibility that he is the one that is not to be trusted. It is so important to LISTEN to another person because if you listen close enough, they will tell you who they are.
Are you with another man at the moment as well? Being the outside observer here...sounds like he is the player and needed an out to be with this new woman so, he blamed you instead of owning up to his real feelings - this makes him feel better for the moment - the downside to this is: he will not be developing any real authentic relationships.
I say that you are better off without him. When a man walks away as he did, it is a gift to you. You may not see this yet but someday you will understand and be grateful for him doing this favor for you.
There are men out there who will not play with your feelings...
