I personally don't think I've ever come out with those words to someone but, if I did, I'd probably be thinking that I enjoy their company and I want to see them at peace in life but my own peace doesn't depend on it happening.

Very few people by the by I meet who call themselves detached truly are or even have a mind of what that is. I rarely meet someone who self describes themselves as detached who is equitable and objective. They are nearly always confusing it with selfish.
It is also characteristic of someone who does not wish to attach, i.e they wish to maintain a freedom from attachment.

I have never told someone they were detached, but I have been detached. Whenever I feel detached I lack feeling, passion, compassion, hope, anger, joy, hurt, concern (for my well-being or the well-being of others)...I didn't feel alive or even human. Nothing stirred me. I could watch myself from the other side of the room. Dark times, cold times...

Detached imo just means the opposite of clingy. I'm giving you space to live your life while I live mine. We're not joined at the hip going to pump gas together or spending every second of every day together, on the phone, or texting.
It has nothing to do with my feelings towards you. It's not a direct reflection of my feelings. If anything it says I love you so I give you space, I trust you so I don't question your every move (where you're at, what you're doing, who you're doing it with, when will you be back).

I had an ex who described me as detached... and in fact came with me, to a doctor, of all things, to tell them I was detached?
I am like the LEAST detached person you will ever find on this planet, towards anything and I was wondering wtf he was on about.
Now that I look back maybe it was because when he told me he wanted to marry me I said "Not gonna happen".
At the time I was trying to be the "cool" girlfriend, plus I was just freshly separated.
He was weird. He wasn't a typical Leo, he was very depressive and negative while trying to project a loving and forgiving persona, preaching all sorts of Buddhist enlightenment while being passive aggressive as hell about it, and with the weak energy he put into this "dharma" he preached, he was quite possibly the least enlightened person you could ever meet.

I've been told I'm detached in relationships. Examples: I enjoy sleeping alone from time to time, some days I want little to no verbal contact with my partner until night time, I crave solitude at least once a day, I won't let him repetitively tell me he loves me, I like to hang out with friends with out my significant other(girl time). All these things do not mean that I don't love who I'm with, it's great to miss my significant other when I'm not around him, or to go do things with out him and just wanting to come back and tell him all about it.
