Peeking out above the Sequoia National Park in the Sierra Nevada mountain range is a 3,200 year old tree aptly called —The President??. The tree extends an incredible 247 feet—or over 20 stories—into the sky and needs to be seen to be truly understood.

I just spent 30 min on that site-- o.O
Also, if you're into it, I believe this can be viewed tonite:
Bright Supernova in M82
Supernova 2014J has brightened to 11th magnitude in M82 off the Big Dipper.
It's visible in amateur telescopes during evening.
Update: For those hampered by clouds or lack of a telescope, Italian observer Gianluca Masi plans an online supernova-viewing session with his Virtual Telescope Project on Saturday, January 25th, at 20:30 Universal Time (3:30 p.m. EST)
A Flukey Find
The first people to recognize the supernova were a group of students — Ben Cooke, Tom Wright, Matthew Wilde and Guy Pollack, assisted by teaching fellow Stephen J. Fossey — taking a quick image at the University College London Observatory (within the London city limits!) on the evening of January 21st, at 19:20 UT.
"The discovery was a fluke," says a university press release-- a 10-minute telescope workshop for undergraduate students that led to a global scramble to acquire confirming images and spectra.

Interesting stuff! 🙂 I have a nice clear view of the Big Dipper out back...but the city lights give a glow. I'm in a sort of dark desert rural area in Phoenix so it's not too bad, I'll have to dust off my spotting scope and take a look-see 🙂
I had to subscribe to his channel 😛

Nice. 🙂
Used to live in NM, and the view of the stars was amazing.
Back in the south, though, unless you're on the water-- have to wait till everything clears the treeline.
Went to dust off the telescope and it was packed.
Bleh--
That accent!
😛
My knees become weak when he speaks Italian. 😄

SOCHI HOTEL GUESTS COMPLAIN ABOUT TOPLESS PORTRAITS OF PUTIN IN ROOMS
POSTED BY ANDY BOROWITZ
SOCHI (The Borowitz Report)—With the Olympics underway, hundreds of visitors to Sochi are complaining that they checked into expensive hotel rooms only to find them decorated with seminude portraits of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The portraits, showing Mr. Putin shirtless and riding a variety of mammals, adorn the walls of virtually every hotel room constructed especially for the Olympics and were created at a cost of over two million dollars, Olympic officials said.
Tracy Klugian, who travelled from Ohio with his wife to attend the Sochi Games, said that he was appalled to find his hotel room dominated by a gigantic portrait of a shirtless Putin riding what appears to be a bear.
Said Mr. Klugian, —I did not travel thousands of miles just to be grossed out.??
For his part, President Putin has been dismissive of the complaints, today calling the hotel guests —babies who cry.??
—These people who are complaining about what is on their walls should be grateful,?? he said. —At least they got one of the hotel rooms with walls."
I was just reading yesterday about the apparent killing of some 7,000 stray dogs and cats (allegedly) in Sochi.
😢
On a separate note does anyone know where/how Bling is?
Be nice to see him back around.

SCARSDALE, NY—Local couple Alison Fry and Peter Hartman told reporters Thursday they have both been pleased since opening up their relationship, saying the exciting new arrangement allowed them the freedom to psychologically wear down other people. —We decided that, at this point, we're both comfortable enough with each other that we can go outside of the relationship and explore making someone else completely miserable, all while knowing that the two of us are the ones we truly care about devastating emotionally,?? Fry explained of the agreement, which allows her and Hartman to guiltlessly seek out additional partners and burden them with their insecurities. —At first, I wasn't sure if overwhelming other people with our respective selfishness and emotional neediness was for us. But now that we've started, it's actually really liberating to know that while we can mentally drain others on the side, there will always be that deep, strained emotional tension between Peter and I that we will always return to. It's been really great.?? Fry added that if the arrangement worked out well, the couple may consider having a three-way screaming argument.
