I know it's hard, because the man is trashing you, but I wouldn't acknowledge what he's doing. At all.
When I was younger my ex Scorp did the exact same thing to me, talk sh*t to guys that were interested in me after I ended things. He shared very personal things about me and it hurt deeply because I felt betrayed. Who knew ending things in a respectful way couldn't be done with a Scorp (😛). One guy that was trying to check me prior to my relationship with the Scorp came and told me what he was saying and my only response was "hmph." with a faint amused smile. I didn't say sh*t to my ex or reveal any of the very damaging/personal things I knew about him. I didn't confirm or deny anything this guy heard when he told me. I just kept it moving. Cried behind closed doors. I wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of letting him see it bother me in any way. When we saw each other, I kept it moving like he wasn't there. Even when he cornered me to apologize, I listened, but didn't say one word. Simply stared him square in the eye and walk by him like I was stepping over a pile of sh*t. He eventually faded to black. It took 3 years mind you.
If that had happened even a year earlier I probably would have acted very differently. I have no doubt I would have been "leave a scar" kind of violent when I first heard what he was saying, because I have in the past with other people. However, the one reason I ended things with him was because I made a decision I wanted a different life and he wanted to keep standing in the same spot. He wasn't going to stop me from achieving my goal to move forward by making me lose my cool.
I could get away with all the drama and violent behaviour (to some extent) when I was younger, but once I stepped into "adulthood", it was a different game and charges weren't in my future.
