Very reliable. The details about what I'm picking up on can take time to figure out, sometimes, outside of truly dangerous situations (in which case, I process VERY fast), but the signal itself is based on reality.

There have been times when I've been in an anxious state so it was harder to know if it was my gut or not, but it's a different sensation from gut feel that I quickly could see wasn't something to take action on.

Something I had to learn in recent years is the way gut feel works for me about people online who I haven't met in person vs people I know in person or at least am speaking to on the phone. I will usually get a reduced sensation, you could say, about people online vs in person/voice, I guess because the consequences, if I don't heed the signal, aren't as critical.

I've been protected from harm a few times by listening to my gut/intuition and following what it told me to do by that quickly -- I followed it w/o question. True fear, vs fear based on anxiety, is very protective. The book The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker is a good resource to learn how to be in touch with true fear - it can save your life. Oh cool, the author's birthday was yesterday (I'm writing this on Oct 27) so how timely.
