But he said nothing happened on that day because we are not married.
So apparently meeting me was very insignificant,

Go figure.

Ouch.

I don't think that is what he meant, but I can see why you're upset. I also don't think you should feel dumb because he does not see things the way you do. It just looks like you're on different pages when it comes to meaningful events. As well, it sounds like he's a little black and white in his thinking..."you didn't care about this, so therefore you shouldn't care about that".

I kind of understand where he is coming from though. This is not to say that meeting someone that I am committed to is not significant, but (for me) this is not the same as making the ultimate commitment to someone. I'll try to explain (my brain is mushy right now...)

I never liked the term "wifey" and would object to being called that whenever my ex or his friends called me that. I was very clear "no, I am his girlfriend". I take certain titles very seriously and I'm not interested in playing a role or pretending we are something we are not. If someone is declaring to the world and making that type of commitment to me that is a BIG deal. I say this because this is not to imply that anyone that is not my husband (or in your case, not his wife) is insignificant or that the moment you decided to be together is insignificant (what type of anniversary is this exactly?), it just means I respect certain levels of commitment differently. For all I know, we may break up. How many times have I felt like this one could be the one? How foolish would I be to celebrate every single time I am in a relationship? Do you know how many "anniversaries" I would have by now? To me, the idea of celebrating an anniversary would no longer hold any value to me. What separates my husband from Joe Blow when I was 16?

I hope this makes sense.

(I don't know if I have typos. If I do, let's pretend I don't.)

It's just a year that we've been together.
I didn't expect a present or anything but I did expect to at least celebrate.
I did not buy a present but I did make steaks for dinner and I got cupcakes for dessert. I felt like a card or a $ 5 grocery store bouquet was in order at least.

I think he was trying to dig o

I did not buy a present but I did make a special dinner and I got cupcakes for dessert.

I think he was trying to dig out of the hole but he just dug himself deeper.

He did say the same thing- where do we draw the line? Are we gonna celebrate when he moved in? Why didn't we celebrate when we started talking?

But really, we've been talking about that it was coming up, the day we met, and we should celebrate it. It was not like we decided anything definite, but we definitely talked about it. If he forgot, I could have handled it but the fact that he acted like it was so insignificant really upset me. Even if its insignificant that we met on that day, clearly spending a year with someone is significant.

It's not something either of us has done with many people.

Yeah, it sounds like it. There is explaining your POV and going on and on about something because you want to alleviate guilt.

I have single ladies bringing me donuts out of the blue...I can't help but suspect I am being played.

What needs moved or fixed?

-L-

Being "played" would suggest that you have an interest in the exchange, which I doubt you do, so no, you are at the advantage. Break the donut in half and offer to share with her. Let her/them bite first and see if she/they has a bad reaction or dies. If not, then enjoy! 😛

But if take the donut...I'll be obligated to move that desk or change that lightbulb.

Ahhh, I see. I didn't catch that. I skim a lot. It's a bad habit. Add a verb in there next time ("to be")😛.

Don't eat/or take it until the end of the day. You know one of those "no....I'll pass" then 2 minutes before leaving do a "hey, do you still have any of those donuts? I'll grab one for the road. Have a great weekeknd!"

Or they might be playing "nice" just to be nice.

Or saut? that pineapple with some bird chilies, shallot, a little brown sugar and lime juice and serve over chicken....

Man... I seriously wish you would start your own cooking thread, because I bet it would smoke mine.

Translation: I want to steal all your tricks and assimilate them like the Borg. 😄

I wish I had that kind of dedication to this place.

I'd be afraid some bozo would derail the topic with all kinds of butt sex talk.

Well, when you are in the mood to make a post, but don't want to risk reading a thread and having to resist the urge to choke somebody... just make that thread and post a recipe. That's what I do. *shrug*

I'll probably derail it if you do, but I will do my best to refrain from derailing it with buttsex talk. Boobies and legs though... that's always fair game.

dangit Phoenix!

I was busy this weekend but saw your control/surrender thread....wanted to come back around and comment and it's GONE! 😭

anyways....I have the same problem.

I'm not really into controlling others, but I'm OCD on controlling myself. I'm learning though! Helps when you are around someone who 'gets' that. I've caught myself letting go a few times and I just have to giggle at myself. It's quite nice letting go....a little bit. 😄

Yes, I know. Sorry about that. I really do appreciate the posts/contribution everyone made and hope they aren't insulted by me deleting the thread. I made notes and have been reflecting on the comments since its deletion.

Yes, this wasn't really an inquiry about controlling others. I read that a lot on the boards about Scorps and how controlling we are and I don't think people really have a clue--but I digress. The comment that was made to me was more along the line of how I try to control myself (e.g. expression, emotions and my interactions with other people) when I feel overwhelmed by various emotions. The person suggested that it was because of fear (which may be somewhat true).

I then came a cross two quotes on surrender:

—Surrender is a powerful force.??
?? P.C. Cast, Burned

—Oh, the sweetness of giving in, of full surrender.??
?? Sebastian Faulks, Engleby

and I was just wondered how people do this, whether it is giving in to an emotion or to another person. It's a difficult thing for me. Working on it though.

Thanks for replying Elle!

Just because I am tired of seeing all of these bullsh*t relationship threads.

hale-freaken-lujah PR...

And apologies for my reflective mini-rant although I kinda created it as a quiet protest to the inane and ridiculous versions of — that were spewing forth.

That was different and I actually found it very endearing. It's all luv for a fellow Scorp. Even the neurotic ones

I've only been on here 3-4 months, but there are peeps who make my left eyelid spasm and I'll quickly exit the thread.
Thankfully there are many more super awesome people so the balance is still in favour.
IDK, but I think if I came across some of the biggest smack talkers on here they would never stand up to me in real life. There is a lack of integrity - as you say back bone- in easily observed in a couple of posters that makes me think they'd be absolutely pathetic in person.

Just so galling that a truly noble thing- adopting a child (with behavioural issues I believe)- is something that people chose to jump on. I don't believe for a moment that Neuro let those muppets affect him, but instead chose to get out of here and the absurd cruelty- therefore OUR loss. Its such a shame- Neuro was (is) such good fun.

Not too sure PR... Probably a bunch of things, including the mundane cluttering our board but it seems that a thread on children- specifically if you would hang around if you found out the child wasn't yours- went sideways.
Now the misc board has a "goodbye Neuro' thread which is ridiculous and shows how very few people actually bothered to get to know him... Mostly populated by the same peeps who always have to offer their opinion on everything in the damn DXP universe.
...sigh... hope he comes back soon...
