"Within the world's Jewish population, which is considered a single self-identifying ethnic group, there are distinct ethnic communities, most of which are primarily the result of geographic branching from an originating Israelite population, and subsequent intermarriage.
An array of Jewish communities was established by Jewish settlers in various places around the Old World, often at great distances from one another resulting in practical, sometimes permanent, isolation from other Jewish communities. During the millennia of the Jewish diaspora the communities would develop under the influence of their local environments; political, cultural, natural and populational. Today, manifestation of these differences can be observed in Jewish cultural expressions of each community, Jewish linguistic diversity, and admixture among Jewish populations."
"Generally, in modern secular usage, Jews include three groups: people who were born to a Jewish family regardless of whether or not they follow the religion, those who have some Jewish ancestral background or lineage (sometimes including those who do not have strictly matrilineal descent), and people without any Jewish ancestral background or lineage who have formally converted to Judaism and therefore are followers of the religion."
""They have become a real race, based on DNA or something.""
That doesn't make any sense to me. They are just as mixed as any other group of people. So how can it be based on DNA? I don't think race is ever determined by DNA. We all practically have the same DNA, tbh.
""I thought scientists knew enough about gene sequencing, to be able to pick out the coding for structures that they use to determine race. ie the coding for specific bone structure types. ""
Nah. I'm pretty sure "race" can only be determined phenotypically.
""Either way, it said there is a disease, which only Jewish people can get. Just as blacks are the only ones who can get sickle cell.""
Yes, well, a disease can be more predominant in a particular community. For instance, sickle cell is generally found among people who descend from certain regions of the world. Not so much an indicator of race, unless you consider people of Asia and Africa to be of the same race.
*** think it sort of became one because people who have one jewish parent will frequently call themselves jewish even if they don't practice judaism.***
If the mother is a jew the children automatically are. Even if she converts.
Can you call black people a race then sb...going off that characteristic? Can you call white people a race. Meaning those definitions dont work in the real world.
Whilst i can see your point, there is good and bad in every sign and it is hypocritical just to make a generalisation on the sun when there are so many other aspects.
But, what can i expect coming from a short women with bad lesbian fantasies?
***i am of irish heritage (light skin, black hair)...and i have been called 'exotic'...never really understood why, but i never took offense to it...***
Me too irishlibra... You must have the hazel eyes too then huh? My hair is sandy brown (natural color)
I have had people of my same race (african american) ask if I was mixed or where I was from because of my exotic look. I just laughed and told them. I also got this from Isrealis in Isreal, Ghanaians in Ghana and Ivorians in the Ivory Coast. They couldn't accept that I was black because of my skin color and eye color. Wierd. As African Americans come in so many shades and features.
Remember when you described some of the looks you tend to get from white guys who stare you down? The looks that you say gross you out, and that you attribute to your biracial features?
Well, my guess is that the abovementioned guys viewed you as "exotic". It has less to do with your overall beauty than it does with the fact that you are something they've never tried before (hence, the use of the word), and therefore found desirable. It is objectification, plain and simple. People may not have the intention of being offensive, but that doesn't change the implications of the usage, or make it less insulting. The underlying meaning remains.
I'm not saying this is what SR meant. I'm saying the word is commonly used in this manner, which brought about my statements.
""Excuse you, but don't mix topics. My using the bleep word was purposeful and I knew how I was using it. Most people aren't aware of how they are using certain words, and they aren't aware of offending someone.""
ahahhahaaa
Now I KNOW it's a hoax. This level of baffoonery cannot exist.
This reminds me of the time when you argued everyone down, claiming that Ghandi should've rightfully played the role of Xerxes in the movie "300", so as to be accurate in terms of ethnicity, because present-day India compromises what was once Persia. lol
they clung to the self-descriptive term as a method of preservation of culture, given all the suffering their people have endured.
