What Is the Meaning of Valentine's Day?

Valentine's Day is a holiday celebrating love and affection between intimate partners. It originated from historical and religious traditions and has become a day for expressing appreciation through gifts, cards, and gestures. While some see it as commercialized, many view it as an opportunity to show love and gratitude to loved ones.

Yeah my sentiments exactly..the whole love thing is so commercialised...Funny how people feel obliged to actually go out and spend loads though..And if they don't the partner assumes they don't care or love them enough..I swear its the cause of many relationship break ups...silly fools..

However, saying all that I EXPECT a card at least..

When I was in a relationship it mattered. I mean I expressed my love year round but on Valentine's Day I tried to make it extra special. Ya Know-Cook Dinner, Give out massages and nice presents. I remember one Valentine's Day I bought my ex-boyfriend an outfit I spent 240.00

Of course I would never do that again...Well...I guess I would for the right person.

My last two years of Valentine's Day were absolute horrid events. So I could honestly care less this year.

Kudos to all the couples though-Love is a beautiful thing.

im ok with valentine's day. im an impulsive giver. compulsive too maybe? valentine's day is giving me a great excuse this year to take my sister out and have a fun time somewhere. though i dont really need the excuse, my sister and i do stuff together all the time. Feb 14th is just gonna involve a lil extra pampering. 😄 people dont need to do anything with it. some feel obligated and whatever... the 'holiday' is circulating love. thats good right? people should remember to not expect anything though (true capricorn right?)... after all, it is a very hallmark holiday. be pleasantly surprised and appreciative when people ride the day and let themselves show some feeling.

I think Valentines Day is a wonderful tradition that has been around for centuries to spread love and to show the special people in your life that you care about, how much you truly appreciate them. Sometimes in day to day life, we take our loved ones for granted. It's nice to let someone you wouldn't ordinarily tell, know that you care about them. To me, it's not about spending money at all. It's more about just letting someone know they are loved much more than they realize.

hah! last year was breaking up with someone on valentine's day...NOT a good day to remember ... it was a good and mutual breakup, but it was still sad to lose a good person from my life, and not at the best time either.

am not particularly looking forward to this year, it's kinda like christmas, where everyone's rushing around looking for presents for their special someone and i wasn't...or new years, when everyone's kissing their special someone and they have all sorts of bright hopes for the year.

when it's valentine's day and women all around are flushed and happy, carrying huge bouquets of flowers and feeling special - it's not that i am jealous of their happiness, in fact it does put a smile on my face, but it's also a bittersweet reminder of being alone. or since am just 'dating' someone it just puts additional pressure and/or brings disappointment.

not that i'm pooh-poohing the whole thing....k, maybe i'm doing a little 'bah hambug' on valentine's day 😛
