Definitely some sacrifices along the way but I feel like it's worth it in the long run.

I remember studying full time while working - pretty sure I was a walking zombie half the time. PS caffeine pills don't work!

Have you thought about studying online?
Yeah, the course I'm taking now until summer is 100% online, which is great. Next one is also online.

I need to work part time while doing this though, I have money saved up to get me by for a while, and if things get tough, I can always go back to my profession, no difficulty getting a job there but I would really like to try something different, if you know what I mean.
I think you'll do fine 🙂 you mentioned you relate to the Aquarius Rising, part of being one is embracing the change and just go with it. I feel like perhaps it's the virgoness analyzing this too much and wanting second opinions? 😛

If it doesn't work out I offer another view: choose something not work related that'll make you happy or as alien as it sounds to some out there, just so something your happy and eventually the money may just come your way.

Haha, exactly. I know I can't stay where I am right now and that I need a change, been feeling like that for some time, but I love the sense of security so that makes me second guess what I feel instictively.

I am doing a lot of writing in my spare time, mostly just publish stuff on Facebook (reviews of films and music) but also sometimes write articles for a music community online. I love it, but so hard getting a profession that pays well out of that. But that would be the dream, I guess 🙂

I understand your struggle. I think you might be better off considering I have been an educator for 8 school years and I feel like I am in the same spot that I was in 8 years ago. My job doesn't pay well and the administration doesn't show any appreciation whatsoever but my kids make me appreciate my job more than anything. I want to change careers and I have done every career test possible. I started applying to positions within schools that don't require actual teaching. Some careers that have come up in my search have been operations, counseling, virtual tutoring, and professional development trainer. Wish you the best!
Thank you, that's exactly my situation as well. While I have been getting recognition a lot of from my collagues and parents, there is no chance of ever advancing and the pay isn't good at all. And this and photographing are the only jobs I've ever had, I feel like I need to get out and do something completely different for a while.
I've also been applying for administrative positions within schools, but so have everybody else it seems, haha 🙂

Well I'll share a story 🙂

2 years ago at the cafe/bar I was managing I met a Sag girl my age, around 29 at the time. She worked literally 5 nights a week and did articles for a small fashion magazine. From memory she wanted a change so she started writing a lot and just kept writing and made new connections when she could.

Fast Forward now, she's now living in France and being invited by people to write, travelling around and living the busy life! So if anything keep writing! Even if you don't think it's worth anyone's attention, even your own personal blog! A year might seem like a long time away but 2015 for me disappeared like a night with 5 bottles of rum.

what about working as a lecturer?
I don't know... maybe it's just me being depressed right now, but I want to work alone and not be bothered by people at all 😢
Im disturbed by how much what you want in a job

mirrors what I prefer... but I have Virgo in sixth.

Can you get into the administration end of it?

Haha, sorry! I've been under a lot of personal stress recently, so I've been feeling the need to avoid people at all costs.
In reality, I do like to help others and be of assistance, but not to the extent where I am surrounded by people all day long, if you know what I mean.
I would love to get into the administration side of it, tough getting a job like that though because a lot of people where I live are quitting their jobs at teaching (the situation in my country is getting ridiculous) so there's a lot of competition for those positions.
I'm guessing getting into accounting and taking courses in stuff like that would help my chances?

Just another avenue you can explore, a friend is a copy-editor and works from anywhere. He works for magazines mostly, they send him text and he checks it out and sends it back corrected!! Pays well too.

I had to deal with him once and he was in Barbados on the beach working... sigh
Oh wow. That sounds like the dream, haha!
I'll write that down as well, thanks again.

LIke I said before (while being attacked by someone I now decided to block altogether, lol), I have a plan right now but I'm open to suggestions and ideas from virtually anyone.

I'm too negative for my own good sometimes. I feel the need for change and get all these dreams and ideas in my head and I don't want to give them up, but then "reality" hits me and I start thinking of practicalities.
BUt thanks, I will definitely keep writing as it makes me happy and is also an emotional outlet for me a lot of the times!

What a dumbass, lol

Now the only person ignorant to what I'm pointing out to the viewing audience is YOU.

All of your viewing audience can still see what I post.

There's no doubt in my mind that you log out to see what I post ..... any time a person says they blocked me and lols, it means that they think they are punishing me, or hurting me ... so they always are the ones who log out to read what I write.

What a moron.

Why don't you be a school counselor. You get to give advice to students (preferably high school or college) about their future and help them prepare / plan.

Since.youre.going through some career troubles right now, I think you would be able to put yourself in their shoes and help them.
Yeah, I would have to go back to university for two additional years to become a school counselor, but I've actually considered this as well.
Thanks!

Wow unfortunately this has taken quite the detour since the original post. Here's my opinion on it:

I know I'm young and haven't really experienced much but I do think about this issue of career changes quite a bit and that may be worth something. Forgive me if it isn't relevant and for the guesses I'm about to make.

I'd like to start off by asking you to take a break from all the research about career pathways and what you might like to do, and just think about why you got into teaching so many years ago. What made you pick that profession? What is the feeling that you wanted to teach someone and make a difference in their lives? Was it because you thought it was interesting? Did you have a good teacher/mentor and admire their skills? Were you motivated by money? Or was it just by chance? Try to find the real emotional reason you picked it in the first place. It's likely to be a few of these combined. That's going to form your dream and long-term goal.

Once you have this dream, think about where you want to reach at retirement and try to decide what is most important to you in this life. For me personally, it's family. I want time with my own family so I'm after flexible hours in a full time job or working for myself or having enough money saved up that I can take some time off when my kids are young. So I know I want to save money now or want a comfortable job. That plays a major part in deciding my profession and career path but it's not the only factor worth considering.

Speaking about interests in other fields: generally I've noticed that Virgos have many interests and you may feel like you want to try everything. I conform to that stereotype. That stereotype also says that you will work towards anything and pursue relentlessly if you believe in it. So just find what you are chasing. Is it knowledge, money, security or time? Dream big because you know yourself and what you are capable of. You've put in a lot of effort already and I really admire your passion for learning.

Other random bits of advice: Keep your career ladder open because you need something to aim towards, or you might simply get bored. Changing careers is fine, go ahead and find what makes you happy. I think that people-phobia you have now might be temporary. I feel it goes away after a while, from my own experience. But take some time alone now and I think you might start missing it in the future. Try and find where you might fit and you'll find people just like you. Ignore the rest of the crowd that tires you out mentally. It's not worth it.

This is only my opinion, go ahead and take what you want from it. If there's anything you disagree with, go ahead and say because opinions can't be universally wrong. I won't take offense.

@simplevirgo; Thank you first and foremost for taking the time to write this 🙂

To be honest, whenever somebody asks me why I became a teacher, I tell them the same thing; "because other people said I'd be good at it." And I was, but I never felt "comfortable" doing it (too much sound, too many people, too many impressions all at once every day). It was also a strategic choice, like I said before, there's a vast shortage of teachers where I live (due to the poor working conditions) so I knew I'd never go without a job and I don't really have any luxuries in my life, so I make an okay living.

It was my first "real" job as well (except for working as a photographer a few times) so I guess I didn't know how I would be or act in a work environment, but it bothers me never to be able to advance, and the lack of structure (every day is different - I never know what I'm walking into) bothers me as well. I don't mean this as complaining, just stating what I've learned about myself in these four-five years I've worked as a teacher - I enjoy knowing exactly what to do, I enjoy working by myself, I enjoy working with language and written texts (part of my job does include this and that's the best part of it and the part where I have excelled).

I want security and structure I guess. I don't mind working hard or being tired from working hard, but I don't want to feel mentally tied down and mentally and emotionally exhausted the way this job makes me feel. I'd like flexible hours as well, and I do value family and friends like you do.
But mostly, I just want to be happy and feel that I'm being appreciated and doing something that I'm good at.

I know I'd like to keep writing articles and people are telling me to pursue this as well, but it feels somehow unrealistic.. like a lot of people want to do this and it's hard to get a secure and structured job doing that.

Unfortunately, almost every job will make you feel tired when you get home.

But there are certain jobs that can ameliorate that effect if you like that job a bit more. It sounds like you don't like being around people as much. It also sounds like you enjoy structure.

You could google search jobs that fit those details, but be prepared to have to suck it up and accept that being an adult entails coming home from work daily, tired as shit.

I hate it too. hang in there *hug*
You are very right in this, I enjoy structure and knowing exactly what I am supposed to do each day. I want a clear assignment and to finish it, then moving on to the next.

I accept working hard and being tired when I get home, but I guess I wasn't prepared for the emotional stress that this job would entail for me. I know I'm not alone feeling this way, a lot of people in my line of work are quitting their jobs altogether, changing careers or on long term sick leave..

Thanks for your reply!

HAHA! Thanks! And yeah, I know I need to grow a pair..
I write for a canadian music community, just various articles on songs that have made an impact in rock history ( I even took a course in "Rock History and Mythology" a couple of years ago, that's how much of a nerd I am), a mixture of history and my personal views.
It's mostly classic rock artists that I focus on.

Completely turned my career life around; it's strange to read this thread again.

Now climbing the corporate ladder and I work in law and information technology. I get the feedback I need, I get the critisism I need. I face this type of stress perfectly; a lot better than the social pressures of being a teacher.

In just two years of working in this field, I am now also educating others and holding seminars.

It was terrible to change my direction completely in the middle of life, and a huge setback financially, but what a pay off.

I have Saturn in my 10th house, haha.

I actually didn't realise this thread was so old. I read the first page and also your chart and put barrister as I could see from your chart that working as a barrister or something in law if you're not in the UK so an attorney or something would suit you.

Virgo's often aren't people persons. Prefer loan working or certainly don't have the capacity to take on others emotional strains especially in something like teaching or special educational needs. Virgo mercury makes you quite detailed and numbers orientated although perhaps not quite enough for accountancy but you can probably appreciate a spreadsheet. Scorpio moon can be incredibly intuitive or paranoid. Naturally understands others motives and can read others. Same with scorpio venus, can dedicate self to one thing or one person well. Mars Capricorn offers drive and hard slog ambition and determination. Sag midheaven would lead you to enjoying the more philosophical aspects of life. Theorising and intellectual stimulation but with enough variety. Probably leads to interest in languages and travel either physically or metaphorically.

this so true.

i've got this virgo sun/aries moon friend and all of us with our other friends and acquaintances went on a trip about 2 hours out of town and we all decided it'd be fun if all 6 of us shared one room together to get familiar with each other (some of the people there we just met coz they're related to our libra friend celebrating his bday that day). and one of the girls related to that libra friend started crying about her ex. when she left, my virgo friend felt scandalized, mentioned how inappropriate it was to spill her soul out to people she'd only just met. she was super loud though and i think that's what got to her.

and i knew this VP for a company i used to work for and she barely cracks a smile or reacts to a joke. she never responds to anything that was too personal and the rare moments she did share something of her personal life, she'd apologize beforehand.

i feel like it must be wariness from prying eyes (and ears!) and avoiding 'inflicting' themselves on other people.

and also coz we're not naturally good with people.

Yes that sounds about right! The Libra spilling their guts and the Virgo raising an eyebrow and looking secretly appauled at the mess on front of them!

Glad you're career is going well. Funny how astrology goes and how much you can derive from it without knowing much the person.

this is the day when i've finally felt like i found my place in this world.

maybe it's coz i'm nearing 30 and my saturn return or maybe it's the therapy i'm on or i've finally ascended into my virgo rising. i'm finally living up to my cap dominant.

i've been working extra hours and i've never felt more at home.

i cried hard the other night to my cap boyfriend about family stuff then woke up and felt this weird drive. went to work and my usual lazy, unambitious self wants a promotion. and not just one but until i reach whatever's the highest plane of existence in this company. after taking whatever i took, something screwed itself properly in my brain it seems. i've experienced headaches with the meds then suddenly this peace and this drive to get promoted is all i can think of.

i'm unfamiliar with the city but i wanna rent whatever's nearest just to be near the workplace.

i sit next to the scorpio manager and behind me is the cap supervisor.

i once worked 16 hours straight just the other day and the scorpio manager pointed to one of the superiors and asked me: "hey, you want her job? you can get into management. i'll take care of it." maybe my greed showed on my face coz how did he know i want a promotion so bad?

whatever sense of balance i've reached somehow drives me into working long hours and i feel i've lost appetite for much anything else.

it feels right.

i think it helped that i've finally confessed to someone about how i really felt about my family, it was humiliating at first but 2 decades of keeping it to myself broke me. and he accepted my pain. all my plans finally laid out and i just have maybe 2 other things left to confess. it's so selfish to hold on but i wanna be happy too, god forgive me. i'm going to hell for one of those things. but i mean i'm figuring these things out a little late in life so maybe we don't have to rush to anything.

i've reached my peace.

for now.

i always think things will fall into place and whatever comes, i'll just have to survive it. feels like for most virgos, we can take comfort in our rituals but we have to remain open to changes.
